Given that the current English Football season is a good few weeks shorter than usual, this meansBet on the FA Cup 2018 that some traditional dates in the calendar have had to be moved around.

One of those dates is when the FA Cup Fifth Round fixtures are played. Usually played on a Saturday, this season we have all eight Fifth Round ties being played in midweek, from Tuesday to Thursday this week to be exact.

As with other rounds of the competition, extra time and penalties will be used to decide the winner if a game finishes in a draw at 90 minutes. Holders Arsenal along with Premier League Champions Liverpool are two of the bigger names eliminated from the competition thus far, but a number of top Premier League sides remain in it, and eight of them face off against each other in this weeks games.

For the winners this week there is the incentive of a place in the quarter finals, just one game away from a Wembley semifinal.

Let’s now check out the games coming up this week from Tuesday to Thursday, including of course a quartet of matches that pits Premier League teams against each other.

FA Cup Fifth Round Tips

Tuesday 9th February

Burnley v Bournemouth

Sean Dyche has an excellent record over Bournemouth over the last few years, winning five of the last six against the Cherries and all of the last four. Burnley are a team that Bournemouth clearly do not like to play against and without a manager, after sacking Jason Tindall last week, I think the visitors will struggle here against the home side. Back Burnley to dig in and grind out another good win to move into the quarterfinals.

  • Correct Score Tip – Burnley 2-0 Bournemouth – 9/1

Manchester United v West Ham

Manchester United’s home form is a bit of a worry for this game. While they have been sublime on the road, at Old Trafford their form has been the reason they are not top of the Premier League. West Ham are in good form at the moment under David Moyes and in the last six games with United, they have a share of the spoils. This could be very close and while I am backing the home side to win, I do think they will need extra time or even penalties to claim the victory.

  • Correct Score Tip – Man Utd 1-1 West Ham – 8/1 (Man Utd to win in extra time)

Wednesday 10th February

Swansea City v Manchester City

Swansea are flying in the Championship and lie third in the table having lost just four games all season long. They have the best defence in the division by a long way, as do Manchester City in the Premier League. City come into the game on the back of a brilliant 4-1 win over arch-rivals Liverpool at the weekend and in truth, they look so strong that I’d back them to beat any team at the moment. I think they win this one comfortably too.

  • Correct Score Tip – Swansea City 1-3 Manchester City – 10/1

Leicester City v Brighton

Leicester may be third in the Premier League but their home form this season has been well below the standards that they would expect. They face a Brighton side with just one loss in their last nine games, that coming away to Manchester City. This could well be a tough one and I am backing Brighton to take the game into extra time where I think the Foxes will do just enough to sneak the win and progress.

  • Correct Score Tip – Leicester 1-1 Brighton- 6/1 – (Leicester to win in extra time)

Sheffield United v Bristol City

Blades fans have not had a huge amount to enjoy this season but a decent FA Cup run has helped take their mind off their dismal league position. Bristol City are their opponents and while the Robins are mid-table in the Championship, I feel that on the road against the Blades they are going to struggle. United have little else to play for this season other than a good cup run and I think they will pick up the win here.

  • Correct Score Tip – Sheff Utd 2-0 Bristol City – 13/2

Everton v Tottenham

Before this weekend, I fancied Everton as a decent outside shout to reach the FA Cup Final, but the unexpected news that Harry Kane returned to the Spurs side to face West Brom, resulting in a 2-0 win for Spurs to end a three-game losing streak, has changed my mind. With Kane, Spurs have a great record at Goodison Park. His return is huge and I think swings the game in Tottenham’s favour, although I do expect it to be very close.

  • Correct Score Tip – Everton 1-2 Tottenham – 10/1

Thursday 11th February

Wolves v Southampton

Southampton have not won a game in their last five and that will be a real concern heading into this game against a Wolves side who are struggling for goals but who have started to put together some stronger performances. Both sides attack has been blunt for a variety of reasons in recent weeks, injuries to key players the main factor. However with home advantage and the Saints struggling for form, this should just about go Wolves way.

  • Correct Score Tip – Wolves 1-0 Southampton – 13/2

Barnsley v Chelsea

Chelsea start this game as the clear favourites against a Barnsley side that are mid-table in the Championship but who are without a win in their last five league games. Thomas Tuchel has overseen three wins in a row for Chelsea in recent times and I think they should not have too much trouble in landing a comfortable win and passage into the quarterfinals at Oakwell on Thursday night.

  • Correct Score Tip – Barnsley 0-3 Chelsea – 15/2
