With just one game of the third week of action in the NFL to go, we have now seen most teams in action in three games and as per usual, we have seen some of the top teams show their class, a number of teams emerging as possible contenders for the divisional title and playoffs, as well as a number of teams struggling to land any win of any sort.

Tonight’s game will see one team with a 100% record in their previous two games see their record end as arguably the two best teams in the NFL at the present moment, the Baltimore Ravens and the current Superbowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs face off in what is being billed as a shootout between two top young quarterback superstars, Lamar Jackson of the Ravens and Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs.

Whoever wins that game should give their team the edge in perhaps securing home field advantage in the playoffs, even at this early stage of the season, but there are a number of other teams also battling for that at the moment and in this article we are going to take a look at some of the early season pace-setters across both the AFC and the NFC.

Let’s now take a look at the teams with a 100% record over the early weeks of the season and what their new Superbowl Outright Winners odds are as a result:

NFL Teams with a 3-0-0 Record

AFC East – Buffalo Bills

Are the Bills for real this time around? Wins over the Jets and Dolphins hardly set the NFL abuzz with Bills believers, but this week’s win against the previously unbeaten Los Angeles Rams may well have done. In a division that has become the sole property of the Patriots in recent times, could the Bills end that domination? Josh Allen is leading the team well but there is still a bit of fragility with this team. Games against the Titans, Chiefs and Patriots in a four week spell will be the acid test for this team. New Odds – 16/1

AFC North – Pittsburgh Steelers

After a relatively easy start for the Steelers with wins over the Giants and Broncos, both of whom are yet to win this season, Pittsburgh were tested by the Texans but came through that test well. The Steelers are probably the second favourites in the North as they are in the same division as Baltimore, so I can’t see them winning this division, but this solid start has given them a good chance of progressing into the playoffs. We will understand where they stand better after next week’s match with old foes, the Tennessee Titans. New Odds – 16/1

AFC South – Tennessee Titans

Of all the 3-0-0 teams none have landed that record in a tighter fashion than the Titans, wins by 2 points, 3 points and this weekend, 1 point mean that the Titans have just a +6 points difference (compared to +49 for the Ravens who have played a game less). Mike Vrabel’s team certainly know how to win games ugly and while their offense has shone over the last few weeks, a worrying lack of ability to stop teams on defense could see them come unstuck against some better-quality teams. With their next two games against the Bills and Steelers, also both 3-0-0 teams, we should get a better idea of where Tennessee stand. New Odds – 22/1

NFC West – Seattle Seahawks

In a very tough division that features four excellent teams and is the toughest in the NFL, the Seahawks have been the standout team. Wins over the Falcons, Patriots and Cowboys have given them an excellent start but crucial games against the Cardinals, 49ers, Bills and Rams from late October will likely define their season. If they can reach that stage having lost just one or two games, then I think we could be looking at the NFC’s Superbowl contenders come the end of the season. New Odds -10/1.

NFC North – Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers have started the season very well once again and they, along with the Bears, look the class act in the NFC North. Scoring points has not been a problem for the Cheeseheads as they have racked up 122 points in their three games so far, but they have also conceded a huge amount. For me, as long as Rodgers stays fit, the Packers have a chance of topping the Division and making a charge at the Superbowl. If he gets injured though, as he has in recent seasons, then their chances may take a nosedive. New Odds – 11/1.

NFC North – Chicago Bears

Along with the Packers, the Bears are setting the pace in the very competitive AFC North and their fine comeback win over the Falcons this weekend will have given them every belief. The Bears were my pick to win the North this season, and that was when they were very much unfancied by the pundits and bookmakers, so I am glad to see they are doing well. However, games against the Colts and Buccaneers in the next couple of weeks will really test them, as will games against the Rams, Saints and Titans that come up after that. New Odds – 33/1.

Teams with a 2-0-0 Record (playing each other tonight)

AFC North – Baltimore Ravens

Many pundits agree that this Baltimore Ravens team is the most balanced team in the NFL, excelling in all three key areas of the game, offense, defense and special teams. No team looks better balanced for a run at the Superbowl and the big wins over the Browns (38-6) and Texans (33-16) have only added to the clamour for the Ravens to be considered the favourites for the Superbowl this year. They are 9/2 today to win the Superbowl, but depending how they go against the Chiefs tonight, those odds may well change by tomorrow morning. New Odds – 9/2 favourites.

AFC West – Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are top of the AFC West despite playing just two games. They beat the Texans in their opener and then battled hard to overcome the Chargers in overtime to claim the win. The magic on offense is still there but they have not quite become the offensive juggernaut that they were at times last season. As such, their odds have drifted a little in the betting. However, after tonight’s game against the Ravens, don’t be too surprised if these odds shorten. New Odds – 5/1

Has three weeks of action changed our opinion of who will win the Superbowl?

Baltimore are still the top pick for many pundits and it is hard to disagree with that after the first few weeks of action. We will know more about the Ravens credentials after tonight’s game. A statement win over the Chiefs and they will be a much shorter price in the morning. Of the NFC teams, the Seahawks would be my pick to reach the final from that conference after a very good start but I do feel the toughness of their division and schedule will take its toll on Pete Carroll’s team by the time we hit the playoffs.
