Stop Messing Up Multi-Tabling

Multi-tabling is so much fun and an incredibly useful way to spend your poker session. It can teach you so much about the game and fast. But we are absolutely sick of people making simple mistakes when they play multiple tables at once. The more tables you play, the trickier it becomes. And we’re all human, mistakes do happen. Having said that, there are so many simple multi-tabling tips you can stick to in order to avoid that.

So take a look at these multi-tabling tips, identify where you’ve been going wrong in your game and see quickly and easily how you can fix it. Your stress levels and bankroll will thank you!

Stop playing at so many tables

This is an article about multi-tabling tips. Multi-tabling by its very definition is playing several online poker games at the same time. So why are we telling you to stop playing at multiple tables? Well because one of the major mistakes people make with multi-tabling is adding too many tables too fast.

The trick is to get really comfortable playing at one table. So comfortable that you can do it in your sleep almost. But of course, as responsible players, we’d never actually recommend unconscious poker play. Anyway, get super comfortable. Know your game. Get so comfortable that you in fact even feel slightly bored because you’re so on top of it.

Then add another table to the mix. Stick with just two until that same level of mastery comes over you. Then it’s time to add another one. And so on. Once you’ve hit around five tables, it’s usually at the level non-professional players find just about manageable.

Stop playing for high stakes

Another common mistake people make while multi-tabling is that they try to make their game more exciting by sticking with the same number of tables but increase the stake levels. As budgets increase, so do the skill levels of the players you’re up against. In some instances, even if you only slightly increase the money you’re playing for, the players your up against can be so vastly different that it’s like playing a whole different type of game.

Don’t be afraid of upping your stakes. That’s a great way to learn. But dial back the number of tables. Repeat the steps in the first multi-tabling tips. Start with one table, crush it with one and other tables slowly.

Stop losing so much money

Okay, so this is one of those multi-tabling tips that we mean a little tongue-in-cheek. Of course you don’t want to lose money when you play poker of any kind. But when you’re multi-tabling, sometimes people can seriously lose the run of themselves.

It’s so fast paced and exciting that it can be very hard to keep track of how much money you’re winning or losing. And it’s also very tempting to open new tables when you go bust on one. So it’s really important to figure out your budget for your session and make sure you stick to it.

Stop confusing hearts for diamonds

Another one that we’re pretty sure you’re throwing your eyes up to heaven about. But you wouldn’t believe how many times multi-tablers lose track of the different suits. Traditionally, as we all know, hearts and diamonds are red while spades and clubs are black. During a regular poker game, where you’re just playing at one table, you’re rarely going to need reminding on what suit is what.

But when the speed ramps up and you have to make decisions so much faster, the colors can get confusing fast. So make life easier on yourself and use a four-color deck. That way, each suit has its own distinct color and you’re waaaaaay less likely to make a simple mistake.

For similar reasons, we’d suggest making sure your table themes are simple and easily distinguishable. There’s no need for extra bells and whistles when you’re multi-tabling.

Stop getting distracted

All good poker players know that it’s not a good idea to play poker online while doing something else in the background. That means no keeping one eye on the TV while you’re hitting the felt online. And that’s even more important when it comes to multi-tabling tips. But there’s a common mistake many people still make. And that’s keeping the table sound effects on. Do yourself a favor and disable them. Otherwise, you’ll be hit with a cacophony of noise and that’s not going to be good for your concentration.
