Keno is an excellent game, although we think it’s woefully under played in this part of the world.
It’s quick to play and super easy to pick up. In fact, we recently declared it to be one of the simplest casino games of all time.
So if you’ve never tried it out, read this article and you’ll be ready to play in no time.
The history of keno is so interesting. This game is from China, but it’s no recent invention. In fact, it is one of the oldest games still played in casinos today, with roots that stretch back over 2,000 years. Back then, the game wasn’t played with numbers, instead it was played with Chinese characters.
It evolved over the years and remained popular in China. And then when immigrants began arriving in the US from the 1800s, they continued to play the lottery-like game and spread it to an even wider player base.
However, the name isn’t actually derived from Chinese. It might surprise you to know that it comes from the French word “quine”. That means a group of five and refers to the fact that some of the game’s prizes are given out to players who match a group of five numbers.
So this is in its essence a lottery-based game. However, unlike the regular lotto, you’ve got better chances of winning something when you play this game.
All you have to do to play it is select numbers 1-80 (called keno spots) on a ticket (called a keno card). In some online casinos, you’ll get to pick your own numbers. In others, it’s purely random.
You can pick anywhere from 1 to 10 or 20 numbers. The exact amount of numbers you can pick depends on where you play. But remember, you’re going to have a better chance of winning the fewer numbers you pick. It’s hard to get all numbers going your way!
Then if your numbers are picked, you get a prize.
You can choose individual spots or “way” keno cards if you want to select groups of numbers. The more numbers you match, the more prize money you get.
You can also increase your payout by betting on bonus numbers. These cost more to play, but will give you a boosted payout.

There are different varieties of the game on offer, but none of them differ too wildly from the traditional game. For example, at bet365, you can find:
Once you know the basics of how to play, you should be right at home with any of these games. But we should note that the Age of the Gods variety also has a sweet progressive jackpot to be won…
Using the bet365 games as an example, you’re looking at an RTP of between 94.35% and 96.2%.
This is purely a game of chance. There’s nothing you can do to influence the outcome or manipulate the patterns. So don’t take it too seriously and remember to play it purely for fun (and within your gambling budget)!
