Let's now take a closer look at how this weekend in the EPL turned out.
The highly anticipated North London Derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal took place on Sunday, September 15, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The match ended with Arsenal securing a narrow 1-0 victory over their fierce rivals. This win was significant for Arsenal as it propelled them to second place in the English Premier League standings.
The game was intense from the start, with both teams showing determination and skill. Arsenal's goalkeeper, David Raya, was kept busy early on, making crucial saves to keep Tottenham at bay. Dejan Kulusevski's first-time effort and a dangerous cross from the Swedish winger were both expertly dealt with by Raya. Despite missing key players like Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, Arsenal managed to hold their ground and eventually took control of the match.
The decisive moment came in the second half when Gabriel's powerful header from a corner found the back of the net, giving Arsenal the lead. Tottenham tried to mount a comeback, but Arsenal's defence held firm, ensuring they walked away with all three points. This victory not only boosted Arsenal's position in the league but also showcased their resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
Another exciting match in the English Premier League saw Southampton take on Manchester United. It was the Red Devils who bounced back from their 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford last time out, recording an equally emphatic win at St Mary's.
It could have been very different. Southampton had a chance to go in front in the first half from the penalty spot. However, Andre Onana made a fine save from Cameron Archer's spot kick to keep the scoreline at 0-0.
It was a crucial moment as a short time later, United were 2-0 in front. Matthijs De Ligt headed the visitors in front and Marcus Rashford curled home a second just minutes later. United controlled the second half well as Southampton ran out of ideas. Jack Stephens received his marching orders for a poor tackle for the Saints and Alejandro Garnacho's injury time third added a touch of gloss to the scoreline for United.
Missed penalties cost a number of teams this weekend and Bournemouth were another to suffer against Chelsea. In what was an even contest, Bournemouth won a penalty in the first half when Sanchez brought down Evanilson in the box. However, the keeper made amends turning away the Brazilian striker's penalty to keep the score level.
In a game that the home side dominated, especially in the first half, it was the introduction of Jadon Sancho that spurred Chelsea into action. The ex-Man Utd wingers' prompting sent the ball into Nkunku on 86 minutes. The Frenchman turned and bundled his way past three defenders to slot home to give Chelsea the lead and eventually the win.
The game set a record for the most Premier League yellow cards in a game, with 14 being dished out across both teams, six for Bournemouth, eight for Chelsea.
Eddie Howe's Newcastle United came from a goal down with just 15 minutes remaining to claim a big win away to Wolves, who remain winless this season. The home side edged the first half and went in front through Mario Lemina on 36 minutes to bring the home fans some much needed joy.
However, in the second half, Newcastle began to take control and after a couple of missed chances, Fabian Schar, back from suspension, pulled them level before Harvey Barnes scored another outstanding goal to put Newcastle 2-1 up just five minutes later.
A nervy finish followed, but Newcastle hung on to move onto ten points and into the top three in the table.

Liverpool's 100% start to the season was ended by a dogged Nottingham Forest performance at Anfield. Nuno Santo's team came with a clear gameplan for the game and it worked a treat as the Reds struggled to create chances against Forest, who looked dangerous on the counter attack.
The misfiring Reds looked a shadow of the side that had beaten Manchester United 3-0 in their previous game and on 72 minutes, Forest got the breakthrough they deserved. Callum Hudson-Odoi taking Anthony Elanga's pass and curling home a fantastic finish.
Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League table following their 2-1 win over Brentford at the Etihad. The Citizens didn't have the best of starts, with Yoane Wissa putting Brentford in front after just 22 seconds to stun the home crowd.
However,City struck back and once again it was the irrepressible Erling Haaland who was the executioner. The Norwegian struck a great shot on the turn on 19 minutes to draw City level and then added a second 13 minutes later to put them in front.
An expected glut of goals for City failed to materialise as Brentford more than held their own against the Champions. Despite that, City took the win and are now the only EPL team with a 100% winning record after four games.
Once again, Everton lost from a position of leading 2-0, the second time in two games that the Toffees have done so. Villa started the match well, but it was Everton who struck first, Dwight McNeill moving forward and striking a sweet left-foot shot past Emi Martinez into the corner of the net.
Eleven minutes later, the lead was doubled when Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed home McNeil's cross to put the visiting Evertonians in dreamland. It was key for Everton to hold onto the two-goal lead to half time but they couldn't. Ollie Watkins heading home his first goal of the season to make it 1-2.
Watkins levelled matters on 58 minutes, taking advantage of a Jack Harrison mistake to slot past Jordan Pickford. However, it took a sensational strike from Villa substitute Jhon Duran to win the game. The Colombian scoring his third winning goal in four games this season with a 30-yard screamer that left Pickford grasping air. It was a goal good enough to win any game and it means Everton remain bottom of the table without a point.

Another London derby this weekend saw West Ham snatch a point from their trip to Fulham, although it will feel like two points dropped for the home team.
Fulham dominated the game and took the lead when Raul Jimenez turned the ball home from close range after a lovely team move had opened up the Hammers defence.
The home side dominated the game but it was West Ham who snatched a point late on when sub Ings pulled them level in the fifth minute of injury time to earn a barely-deserved point.
Leicester City threw away a 2-0 lead to earn only a point from their trip to Selhurst Park. Jamie Vardy put the Foxes in front on 21 minutes and then early in the second half, Stephy Mavdidi added a second.
However, Jean-Philippe Mateta pulled one back immediately for Palace, who peppered the Leicester goal from then on but it took a 92nd minute penalty from Mateta to haul the Eagles level and give them a share of the spoils.
Brighton fans watched their side dominate the game, but ultimately fall short of claiming the win thanks to a dogged defensive display by Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town at the AMEX on Saturday.
The home side had 21 shots in the game, compared to six for Ipswich, but could not get past Arijanet Muric in the Ipswich goal. Indeed Ipswich came closes to the win when Liam Delap's shot hit the post early on in the second half.
Brighton remain unbeaten with eight points from their four games so far in the EPL.

In other news, Manchester City is determined to clear their name in the battle against 115 Premier League charges. The club is currently at the top of the table but will be defending their name in an independent commission starting Monday regarding these charges.
Manager Pep Guardiola expressed relief that the hearing is finally beginning, as the financial allegations have been a constant topic of conversation since February 2023.
Manchester City maintains their innocence on all counts, but Guardiola suggests other top-flight clubs want them punished. A penalty of a deduction of 30 points has been mooted, which it is believed many Premier League clubs feel is insufficient.
The ramifications of either a guilty or innocent verdict are significant and could tarnish the Premier League's reputation.
If found innocent, it would question the Premier League's decision to bring forward charges without sufficient evidence and could lead to reputational damage for both parties involved.
The Premier League faced accusations of trying to justify Declan Rice's red card by increasing the number of bookings this past weekend.
Arsenal midfielder Rice received a controversial red card in a match against Brighton and Hove Albion, leading to a one-match suspension. Arsenal won the North London derby against Tottenham without Rice, but the past weekend saw a record number of yellow cards issued.
Fans suggested that referees were overcompensating for Riceโs red card by issuing more yellow cards than usual. Chelsea's win at Bournemouth set a single-game record with 14 yellow cards for players and two for coaches. The North London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal set a record for most first-half bookings with seven.
This increase in bookings sparked discussions among fans and analysts about the consistency and fairness (or lack of both) of refereeing decisions in the Premier League.
Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa begin their Champions League League Stage campaigns this week. In the Europa League Manchester United and Tottenham begin their league games and in the Conference League Chelsea will be starting their quest for the trophy.
Following on from those games, next weekend's Premier League fixtures are:
