Alvarez is 63-3-2 with 39 knockouts, but the power numbers belong mostly to an earlier phase of his career. His last stoppage came against Caleb Plant in the 11th round in November 2021. In the seven fights since then he has put John Ryder, Jermell Charlo, Jaime Munguia and Edgar Berlanga on the canvas without finishing any of them.
The most recent of those outings ended in a unanimous-decision defeat by Terence Crawford in September 2025. Alvarez then had elbow surgery, which explains the long gap. At 36, he is the challenger for the first time since he stepped up to face Dmitry Bivol at light heavyweight in May 2022.
Experience is the clearest gap between the two men. Alvarez has boxed 532 professional rounds and taken part in 28 world title fights. Mbilli has boxed 143 rounds and Saturday is only his second world title fight.
Mbilli, whose name DAZN spells M’billi, was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, is based in Montreal and is 29-0-1 with 24 knockouts. He is 31, an inch taller than Alvarez at 5ft 8½in, and has a reach of 72in against 70½in. Both box from an orthodox stance.
He won the interim belt by stopping Maciej Sulecki in the first round in June 2025. His next fight was harder: a split draw with Lester Martinez on the Alvarez–Crawford undercard, which the WBC named its fight of the year. He was promoted to full champion in January after Crawford gave up the title.
The Martinez fight matters because Mbilli works at a high rate and accepts punches to land his own. Against a counter-puncher with Alvarez’s timing, that style creates chances for both men. It also means Mbilli is unlikely to give away rounds by waiting.
Canelo by decision or technical decision, 8/11: this is the price that matches the evidence above. Alvarez’s run of seven fights without a stoppage, against opponents he often hurt, suggests the finishing power is no longer reliable at 168lb. Mbilli has not been stopped in 30 professional fights. Bet365’s method-of-victory market rates this outcome at roughly 58%, more than double the Canelo stoppage price of 15/4.
The strongest counterargument is the layoff. A 36-year-old returning from elbow surgery against a busier, younger champion may not have the output to win enough rounds, and the Mbilli decision price of 4/1 reflects that risk. A close fight on the scorecards could also end in a draw, priced at 12/1.
For longer-priced tips, those who see a quicker ending can look at the total rounds lines, where under 9.5 rounds is 7/2, or the round betting groups, where Alvarez in rounds 10 to 12 is 11/1. Both depend on a stoppage that neither man’s recent record makes likely. For the heavyweight picture, read our Dubois v Wardley II odds preview.
