Dubois v Wardley II Odds: Revenge or Repeat at the O2?

Dubois is the 2/7 favourite in the bet365 snapshot, but Wardley dropped him twice in May. Fight details, stoppage prices and the rounds debate for their O2 rematch.

Daniel Dubois defends the WBO heavyweight title against Fabio Wardley at The O2 on Saturday 17 October. Dubois is the 2/7 favourite in the bet365 snapshot, but Wardley put him down twice before losing their first fight. Quite a lot of drama for a price that looks so tidy.

What happened in Manchester?

Their first meeting took place at Co-op Live in Manchester on 9 May. Wardley dropped Dubois in the opening seconds and again in round three, but referee Howard Foster stopped Wardley 28 seconds into round 11. Wardley stayed on his feet; Dubois took the title and handed him his first professional defeat.

The Ring’s ringside report records Dubois at 23-3 with 22 knockouts after that win, and Wardley at 20-1-1 with 19. It describes the difference that emerged after the early knockdowns: Dubois repeatedly landed his jab and straight right, while Wardley struggled to interrupt the pressure. Our report of the first Wardley–Dubois fight has the result details.

The jab gives the rematch its shape

CompuBox’s first-fight count recorded 179 landed punches for Dubois against 97 for Wardley, including a 92–57 advantage in landed jabs. Punch counts don’t score a rematch, but those figures help explain how Dubois recovered from two knockdowns and still took control.

BCP’s reading is that Wardley needs to make Dubois reset between attacks. If he waits through the jab to throw one big reply, he risks conceding the same stretches of the fight again. The early knockdowns show why Dubois cannot simply march forwards with his chin available for inspection.

For Dubois, a more orderly opening would remove the need for another rescue act. That is a sensible tactical aim, though it would be a stretch to assume he has solved Wardley’s right hand because he survived it in May.

How it could go

A repeat becomes easier to picture if Dubois establishes the jab without giving Wardley another early opening. Sustained pressure would then support the stoppage argument, particularly if Wardley spends long spells defending near the ropes. That is the case for the favourite; the counterargument has already put him on the canvas twice.

Wardley’s route is to make those dangerous moments count while avoiding the prolonged punishment that followed them. An early breakthrough could change the whole contest, but chasing it too eagerly could leave him open to Dubois’s straight punches. Neither scenario lets us read the finishing round off a calendar.

Rounds markets: a stoppage needn’t mean an early night

The 2/9 price for the fight not to go the distance is much shorter than 3/1 for it to reach the final bell. That distinction says nothing by itself about an early finish. May’s fight reached round 11 despite knockdowns in the first and third; the kettle had plenty of time for another shift.

The totals ladder asks a more specific question. Over 7.5 rounds is 10/11, over 9.5 is 7/4 and over 10.5 is 12/5 in the snapshot. Each longer line needs the bout to last further, so a view that there will be a stoppage can still fit some of the overs. Check the precise half-round settlement point in the market rules.

For a narrower late-finish angle, the bet365 pack lists Dubois in rounds 10–12 at 11/2, Wardley in rounds 10–12 at 28/1, and either fighter in rounds 10–12 at 5/1. These are per bet365 pack at time of writing, with the same review time above, and are subject to change. Picking a three-round window adds a condition that the broader stoppage market doesn’t have; May’s finish alone is a thin reason to do it.

Bet365 betting angle

Dubois by KO/TKO/DQ at 8/15 is the clearest market expression of the repeat argument. It follows from his sustained success after recovering in Manchester, rather than relying on another exact-round finish. Wardley’s ability to hurt him remains the strongest objection, and a Dubois points win would also miss this selection.

The second angle is the gap between a stoppage and a short fight. Over 7.5 rounds at 10/11 deserves comparison with the 2/9 no-distance price because both outcomes can happen in the same bout. May supplies an example, not a forecast. An early knockdown could become an early stoppage this time, and one meeting cannot establish that either price offers value.
