Just a day after Doug Polk sent out a tweet hoping for prop betting action on a fitness challenge to increase his own motivation, the call has been answered. The person accepting the pro bet is a fellow poker player that is no stranger to props — Bill Perkins.
On February 10th, the $200,000 Doug Polk weight loss bet with Bill Perkins officially got underway, with Polk having a year to get to 13.85% body fat, which he must halve from his current 27.7%. In recent months, Polk has been turning his attention away from heads-up matches and more towards running the Lodge Poker Room in Austin, Texas.
If a prop bet on weight or fitness sounds familiar, it's because it is. As many poker fans know, prop bets have been a favorite among ambitious poker players who believe they can find an edge while getting healthy at the time. This is also not the first time that Bill Perkins has taken action on a weight loss challenge.
Jaime Staples and Matt Staples famously underwent a weight loss challenge for $150,000 — of which they only had to risk $3,000 (odds of 50:1). In that prop bet, the Staple brothers were tasked with converging their own weights over a year. Jaime started at 304 pounds while Matt started at 134. On March 25th, 2018 they officially won the bet with both their weights hitting the 188 mark. The achievement got national attention as the brothers closed the 170-pound difference.
Let's take a look at what poker fans are talking about with the Doug Polk weight loss bet.
The Doug Polk weight loss challenge bet can be more accurately described as a “body fat” bet. High-stakes poker player and Thirst Lounge head Bill Perkins bet fellow player, YouTuber and poker room owner Doug Polk $200.000 that he couldn't get down to 13.85% body fat in one year. This number is exactly half of his current BF %.
Should Polk reach the milestone, he would win $200,000. If Polk fails to reach 13.85% body fat, Perkins would win $200,000.
Polk entered into the bet on February 10th, 2022 after completing a DEXA scan, which measures bone density. It will conclude on February 10th, 2023.
Since the bet is based on body fat loss, Polk did not give his initial weight, but indicated he was at 27.7% body fat on February 10th, 2022.
Doug Polk posted this picture on Day 1 of the weight loss bet with Bill Perkins:
The challenge began on February 10th, 2022, so there is no real update at this time. Hopefully, for Polk's sake, he laid off the nachos and pizza on the Super Bowl.

Polk has not provided a recent update of how his boy fat challenge bat is going but he was criticized by some of his Twitter followers after a comment of one of the SI Swinsuit 2022 cover girls:
Doug Polk posed the question to his Twitter followers, with the majority responding that they had faith that Polk could pull it off.
At the start of his body fat bet, Polk measured in 27% body fat. Polk says that this is already around the best shape of his entire life. Some have also noted that he looks pretty good for someone at 27% body fat.
Should Polk reach the 13.75% body fat level, he may look like an entirely different person.
The topic of the Doug Polk/Bill Perkins fitness bet has let up Twitter with most supportive of Polk's efforts to get healthy.
