Everton v Chelsea: Which Chelsea Turns Up For Match?

Chelsea’s 5–1 win meets Everton’s run of draws. We examine the attacking routes, defensive doubts and Bet365’s full-time prices for Saturday’s 12:30pm BST kick-off.

Chelsea arrive at Everton after putting five past Bournemouth, but their outing ended in a three-goal defeat at Brentford. Before anyone orders the open-top bus, there is an away performance to sort out.

Everton’s recent draws give the 14/5 stalemate a case to examine. Chelsea’s quick starts offer the obvious objection: Saturday could look very different if the visitors score before the hosts settle.

The 5–1 result gives Everton warning

In Chelsea’s account of the Bournemouth win, Jordan Henderson scored in the second minute from Cole Palmer’s pass, then supplied Morgan Rogers for another goal a minute later. Bournemouth were two down before the afternoon had properly begun.

Chelsea also scored immediately after half-time, with João Pedro finishing after Pedro Neto’s work on the right. Later, Pep Chavarría’s low cross gave the striker another close-range goal. For Everton, that makes defending the width of the box a practical concern: following the ball towards one flank must not leave the central finish unattended.

Those moves explain Chelsea’s attacking appeal more usefully than the score alone. They do not establish that Everton will allow the same space, or that a two-goal head start is part of the away ticket.

Brentford exposed the work after the first clearance

The other Chelsea appeared at Gtech Community Stadium on 18 September. Brentford’s report of their 3–0 win describes a corner reaching Jannik Schuster at the back post; his header across goal allowed Jaidon Anthony to finish. Later, Igor Thiago followed in a saved Kevin Schade shot, before Fábio Carvalho met a deflected cross at the far post.

Chelsea’s problem in those sequences was dealing with what happened after the first delivery or shot. Everton can ask that question by keeping runners involved when the ball comes back across goal. That is an interpretation of the goals, rather than a claim that David Moyes has announced a particular plan.

Chelsea created chances before the interval, so the final score should not erase their threat. But a home win over Bournemouth cannot, by itself, settle whether those defensive problems have gone away.

Everton’s draws come with different stories

Everton’s last five league results are 1–1 at Bournemouth, 2–2 at home to Manchester United, 0–0 at Tottenham, a home 1–0 win over Ipswich and 2–2 at Hull. Four draws and one win make them awkward opponents, though a five-match sample is hardly a crystal ball with floodlights.

The two 2–2 ties show why detail matters. Everton rescued the United match with Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ stoppage-time equaliser. At Hull, goals from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry turned a deficit into a 2–1 lead, only for Mohamed Belloumi to equalise six minutes after Barry scored. One point can mean a recovery or a missed opportunity; the results do not describe a side simply shutting every game down.

Off the pitch, Everton’s 9 October statement says the Friedkin Group is exploring investment options, including a possible sale of a controlling interest. That is a potential transaction, not a completed sale or evidence that the players will perform differently on Saturday.

Caicedo’s return changes the comparison

Chelsea’s 10 October team update confirmed Moisés Caicedo’s return to the starting XI after injury. Reece James missed Bournemouth after picking up an injury in training the previous day. Caicedo’s return is a reason to be careful about treating the Brentford side as an exact guide to the team Everton will face.

At the time of writing, James’ availability for Everton and a complete picture of Everton’s injuries could not be confirmed. The draw argument depends partly on Everton retaining enough attacking threat to trouble Chelsea after clearances, while Chelsea’s case strengthens if the combinations behind the Bournemouth goals are available again.

Bet365 betting angle

Full-time draw, 14/5: This is the result worth examining against Chelsea’s 11/10 away price. Everton have drawn four of their last five league games, and Chelsea’s Brentford defeat supplies a specific reason to question whether their latest home performance travels. The draw requires the scores to be level after 90 minutes plus stoppage time.

The strongest counterargument is Chelsea’s capacity to score quickly and through different attacking combinations, now with Caicedo back in contention after his Bournemouth start. An early Chelsea lead could force Everton to leave more room while chasing the game. Saturday’s selections therefore matter; the previous results alone do not establish that 14/5 is value.

Chelsea are favourites in the prices above; the draw remains a possibility to assess, without a promise of returns. You can view bet365 Sports.
