Last week, we took a look at the games coming up on the fifth week of action in the Premier League. Now it’s time for our midweek football betting tips, focusing on the trio of big UEFA Competitions.
The Champions League group phase gets underway on Tuesday and Wednesday night this week, while on Thursday we see the start of action in the group stage of the Europa League and the Europa Conference League.
There’s plenty of British interest in these competitions and it will be these games in the main that we focus on for our midweek football betting tips over the course of the season in UEFA competitions.
All odds shown in this article are courtesy of bet365 Sport and were correct at the time of writing but can of course change in the run up to the start of each game.

We’re going to go through our midweek football betting tips chronologically, starting with Tuesday’s Champions League action, through to the late games on Thursday night in the other two competitions.
Newcastle’s first Champions League campaign for many years has seen them drawn in the toughest of groups and it means that there are no easy games for the Toon Army. With PSG and Dortmund the other two teams, a win here for either team would be an important start to the group stages. Milan were thrashed 5-1 by Inter at the weekend in a key game in Serie A, while Newcastle earned a 1-0 win to get back to winning ways. This one could be a close call.
Top Tip – Draw and both teams to score – 10/3
Having watched Rangers thumped by Dutch opponents last time out Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic now face their own Dutch battle against Eredivisie Champions Feyenoord. The Celts have produced some good results in Europe over the last couple of years, but more in the Europa League than the Champions League and I think given that extra quality the Champions League possesses, this could be a tough evening for the Scottish side.
Top Tip – Santiago Gimenez (Feyenoord) to score anytime -13/10
Defending European Champions Manchester City face a relatively benign opening fixture against a Red Star Belgrade side that are no longer the power that they once were in Europe. In fact, the bookies have City as the massive odds on favourite here and likely to land a big win. In truth, I can’t really argue against that hence my pick here.
Top Tip – Correct Score – Man City 5-0 Red Star Belgrade – 17/2
Arsenal landed an important win away to Everton at the weekend to set themselves up very nicely for this first Champions League game of the season against a tricky opponent in PSV. The Dutch side thrashed Rangers to reach this stage of the tournament and they have a decent record against Arsenal from games in the past. However, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners do look a class apart and I would expect them to get the win here.
Top Tip – Martin Odegaard (Arsenal) to score at any time – 7/4.
Two of the biggest teams in European football clash at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night in what should be a cracker. Bayern head into this game on the back of a home draw with Leverkusen at the weekend, but United were defeated 3-1 by an excellent Brighton at the weekend to heap more pressure on Erik Ten Hag and his team. United’s away form is a real concern and in truth, I can’t see anything other than a comfortable win for Bayern here.
Top Tip – Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) to score first – 3/1
Liverpool’s fine start to the season continued with a 3-1 win at Wolves, with the Reds coming back from a 1-0 half-time deficit to clinch a fourth win in five games in the EPL. LASK Linz are going well domestically in Austria, but they won’t have faced a team of the calibre of Liverpool. Virgil Van Dijk will return for the Reds but Trent Alexander-Arnold is still a doubt. In truth, it shouldn’t matter as Liverpool should have more than enough to clinch the win here.
Top Tip – Correct Score – LASK Linz 0-3 Liverpool – 8/1
How will Brighton go in their first adventure in Europe? The Seagulls warmed up for this game with a thumping 3-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, the second time they have beaten United away from home in the past two seasons. AEK Athens are a half-decent side, but in truth, if Brighton can beat teams like Manchester United comprehensively on the road, then they should not have any real problems dealing with the likes of the Greek team.
Top Tip – Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton) to score at any time – 6/4
Can Rangers put the somewhat humiliating loss to PSV in the Champions League qualifiers behind them in time for this game against Real Betis? A win at the weekend over St Johnstone will have given them a bit of belief back but they face a Betis side who have lots of quality but who were also thrashed 5-0 at Barcelona on Saturday. The Seville-based side will be looking to bounce back from that and I fancy them to get a result at Ibrox on Thursday.
Top Tip – Real Betis to win and both teams to score – 4/1
West Ham’s opponents FK Backa hail from Serbia and they are top of the table at present and considering they are ahead of both Belgrade giants, Partizan and Red Star, I think West Ham’s odds of 1/10 on to win this game are very, very short. The Hammers have started the season well, don’t get me wrong, but they are unbackable at that price. I can see the Serbian side netting a goal here but I still expect West Ham to earn a win.
Top Tip – West Ham to win and both teams to score – 15/8.
A defeat at the weekend to Hearts has not left Aberdeen in great shape heading into this game. The Dons have just two points from their first five SPL games and they are second bottom of the table. They face an unbeaten Frankfurt team who have drawn their last three games, winning the other to lie 9th in the Bundesliga and in truth, the gulf in quality between the two teams means that this should be an easy home win for the German side.
Top Tip – Correct Score – Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 Aberdeen – 11/2
Aston Villa’s first European campaign for many years begins with a trip to Poland to take on a Legia Warsaw side with plenty of recent European experience, but a lack of good results in the top tournaments. Legia have won all four of their home games domestically this season, scoring ten goals, conceding just one, so this won’t be an easy one for Villa, especially considering Villa have lost all their away games this season. Going with a match result prediction here is tricky, so I think a goalscorer market may be a better option.
Top Tip – Anytime Goalscorer – Moussa Diaby (Aston Villa) – 13/8
That concludes our midweek football betting tips for this week! Let's hope we can land a winner!
