Archive of the March 2026 qualifier preview, with checked European semi-final results, separate Mexican play-off context and expired prices removed.
Published: Last updated:
This is the archive of the World Cup qualification preview first published on 24 March 2026. The fixtures discussed were played on 26 March; they are not upcoming bets. The preview’s old prices have been removed, and the European results below are a later addition, not information that was known before kick-off.
Europe’s eight matches were play-off semi-finals, not the start of another group qualifying campaign. Each winner still needed to win a final on 31 March to reach the World Cup. Winning on Thursday did not itself secure qualification.
England, France and Spain were not among those European play-off teams. They had already qualified as group winners, as had Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Scotland and Switzerland. UEFA’s November 2025 qualification summary separates those twelve teams from the sixteen play-off participants. The earlier preview’s discussion of those three countries as March qualifying contenders was therefore misleading.
All eight fixtures below took place on 26 March 2026. A penalty shoot-out is shown separately from the match score; it is not added to the teams’ goals. These results come from UEFA’s own semi-final round-up.
| Path | Match | Result | Advanced |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Italy vs Northern Ireland | 2–0 | Italy |
| A | Wales vs Bosnia and Herzegovina | 1–1 after extra time | Bosnia and Herzegovina, 4–2 on penalties |
| B | Ukraine vs Sweden | 1–3 | Sweden |
| B | Poland vs Albania | 2–1 | Poland |
| C | Türkiye vs Romania | 1–0 | Türkiye |
| C | Slovakia vs Kosovo | 3–4 | Kosovo |
| D | Denmark vs North Macedonia | 4–0 | Denmark |
| D | Czechia vs Republic of Ireland | 2–2 after extra time | Czechia, 4–3 on penalties |
The four finals scheduled for 31 March were Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Italy, Sweden vs Poland, Kosovo vs Türkiye and Czechia vs Denmark. That was the next stage following these results, rather than a second leg of the semi-finals. This archive does not present those finals as future events.
The other qualification route was a six-team tournament in Mexico, involving Bolivia, Congo DR, Iraq, Jamaica, New Caledonia and Suriname. FIFA’s 5 March 2026 tournament announcement identified semi-finals on 26 March and finals on 31 March, with two World Cup places available.
Guadalajara hosted the pathway involving Jamaica, New Caledonia and Congo DR. Monterrey hosted Bolivia, Suriname and Iraq. That is different from claiming that the United States, Mexico and Canada were fighting for qualification in this window, or describing it as a fresh round of the South American league. The relevant South American participant in this tournament was Bolivia; Argentina and Brazil were not in its six-team field.
The original preview included prices for several European matches and markets such as “to qualify”, winning from behind and scoring in both halves. Those prices are no longer actionable, and the article did not provide a publication-time record sufficient to re-verify them as UK bet365 prices. They are not carried into this archive as current offers or retrospective evidence of value.
The preview also described draws, unders and home advantage as betting opportunities without supplying prices, a method or supporting evidence. A broad description of a competition cannot establish that a particular bet was underpriced. Nor should a result be used after the event to claim that a selection was certain beforehand.
For the distinction between a match result and a separate market, use BCP’s football betting features guide. The betting calculator guide explains return calculations, not the likelihood of an outcome. Neither makes an expired fixture or price available again.
The original publication date is retained. The result table is a retrospective correction using UEFA’s report, while the qualification context and Mexican venues use the dated organiser sources linked above. No winner of a later final, live price, current promotion or current ticket availability is implied here.
