For us, it's pretty much the exact right combination to keep us interested all Tour long.

2023 Tour preview

Running from 1 July until 23 July

For just over three weeks, we'll be living and breathing the Tour de France as the cyclists whizz past our screens and into our hearts.

The first few stages are in Spain

One delightful quirk of the Tour de France is that it never really starts in the same place, year on year. And also it loves to travel the world. This time, they're not going too far from France. The 2023 Tour starts in Bilbao, Spain. The first stage then ends in Vitoria Gasteiz. Stage 2 is from San Sébastien all the way to Amorebieta Etxano. Then during the third stage, the cyclists cross the French Spanish border, to end up in the French city of Bayonne.

What are the key dates to watch out for during the 2023 Tour de France?

Office Calendar

We always love the first day of any major sporting event, but in our book Stage 2 is going to be particularly interesting. It's the longest stage and also takes place in the Spanish hills, a famous spot for cyclists.

Another interesting stage to watch is stage 16. Some people aren't crazy about them, but we always take a shine to the time trials. And on Tuesday, 18 July, you can watch them play out for yourselves.

And what dates should I not bother watching?

Now it goes without saying that the rest days are days that literally nothing happens in the Tour, so you can take a break from proceedings yourselves during those days. Monday 10 July and Monday 17 July are the rest days this year.

Tadej Pogacar is the one to watch

The bookies' favorite to win the 2023 Tour is Tadej Pogacar, however Jonas Vingegaard is not too far behind him in the odds. Although not tipped by many to finish first, it's expected that Enric Mas Nicolau, David Gaudu and Jai Hindley are all going to put on a good performance in pursuit of the yellow jersey.
