Each-way first goalscorer vs anytime: stakes, rules and returns
Compare each-way first goalscorer and anytime bets with checked teaching examples, total stakes, place terms, extra time and non-starter rules.

An anytime goalscorer single and an each-way first goalscorer bet are not the same stake arrangement. The single has one part. The each-way bet has a first-scorer part and a separately staked place part, so “£10 each way” normally means £20 total. Neither is automatically the better bet.
What the two parts cover
For an offered each-way first goalscorer market, the win part depends on your player being the first scorer. The place part can win when that player scores later under the accepted place terms. If the player scores first, both parts can win; if they score later, only the place part can win. If neither condition is met, both stakes can lose.
An anytime goalscorer single instead pays at its own quoted price when the player scores within that market’s covered period. Do not compare it with only half of the total each-way stake, or assume its price equals the place price.
Read the period, place terms and non-starter rules
The current UK player-goalscoring rules, checked on 2 October 2026, say first/last goalscorer settlement includes extra time when played. Each-way first goalscorer pays the indicated terms for unlimited places in 90 minutes plus any extra time. This corrects the former claim that only the first 90 minutes counted.
The same rules void first-goalscorer, including each-way, and anytime selections when the player does not start, except for rolling-substitute competitions such as Baller Leagues and Kings League. Own goals do not count. Do not rely on the old article’s optional-checkbox explanation or assume a substitute’s appearance makes the bet stand.
The UK each-way help page says the place fraction and covered positions are shown with the event and bet slip. Use those accepted terms, not a blanket one-third rate. Availability is not established for every football fixture; check the actual offered market and its rules.
A worked comparison using teaching prices
Suppose an illustrative first-scorer price is 8.50, with a hypothetical one-third place fraction, and the anytime single is 3.75. These are teaching inputs, not current bet365 prices, a live match or a recommendation. Compare a £10 each-way bet, £20 total, with a £20 anytime single.
The fraction applies to fractional profit odds, not the whole decimal return. Decimal 8.50 represents 7.50 fractional profit odds. One-third of 7.50 is 2.50; adding the stake unit back gives a place decimal price of 3.50. Dividing 8.50 by three would be wrong.

This table assumes ordinary settlement with no void, dead-heat or other adjustment. Different prices or place fractions change the result. A winning place part can return less than the combined stake: winning one component does not always mean an overall profit.
Which has the better return?
In this example, the each-way bet returns more if the player scores first, while the anytime single returns more if they score later. The first goal is a narrower condition than scoring at any time. The bigger conditional payout does not prove that the each-way bet is better value; that would require information about the relevant probabilities as well as prices.
There is no reliable blanket rule to choose each-way for famous strikers or short prices and anytime for longer prices. Check the total stake, period, starting status, place fraction and separate quoted prices. Do not treat unlimited places as unlimited wins or a guarantee that a particular player will score.
