Sunday was the biggest day yet of the World Series of Poker Main Event with an estimated 2,550 players entering Day 1d, more than the first three days combined and more than four times Saturday’s numbers.
By the end of the day, Adedapo Ajayi was the chip leader of the group, finishing ahead of a field of 1,939 players. Joining him among the notable players is David “Bakes” Baker, Dan Shak, Cliff Josephy and Nick Petrangelo.
A few hundred players were not so lucky. Some of the more notable eliminations on the day included David “ODB” Baker, Jeff Boski, Joao Vieira, Adam Levy, Joseph Cheong, Brandon Shack-Harris, John Monnette, Michael Addamo, Phil Laak, David Williams, Greg Raymer, John Esposito, Jason Somerville, Ryan Laplante and Joe McKeehen.
Through the first four flights, 4,518 players have entered the tournament with two more flights still left to go. The all-time record of 8,773 entrants was set in 2006 is still a ways off, but historically, a greater number of players tend to join the later flights.
Of the four a half thousand that have entered, 3,498 are still alive in the tournament waiting to join one of the Day 2 flights when they pick up on Wednesday and Thursday.
