Better Acca Betting Step 2 – Sizing Your Accumulator Bet
The next thing to consider is what size your accumulator bet should be. There are no hard rules here, most of the time it is the selections available to you in your chosen markets that will dictate the size of the accumulator.
For example, if you are looking at matches in the Premier League only and in one week, there are a lot of games where top teams are taking on teams lower in the table, you may feel comfortable adding more selections to your bet slip.
In contrast, if it is a week in the EPL where there are a lot of evenly matched and difficult to predict contests, you may be better served adding fewer selections to your bet slip.
The key aspect of this to remember is that the more selections you add to your acca bet, the more the odds will increase…but so the chances of you landing a win with that bet will decrease too.
It is the balance of finding a happy medium between these two factors that will enable you to find the sweet spot for your acca bet.
And this is where the odds for your bet can be particularly useful. You can have a fourfold accumulator that has odds of 100/1, while a sixfold could have odds of just 20/1.
It is therefore sensible to keep a close eye on the odds when making your selections. But there is also something even more fundamental you need to do when picking your matches.

For me, this is the most important part of better acca betting. A little time spent researching the fixtures that you intend to bet on, regardless of the sport in question, is always a positive.
Going with a “gut feeling” for acca selections is tempting. Instincts can certainly help play a part in picking the right result. But sometimes, in fact many times, instincts are not correct and sometimes research is a better option.
A great example here is a fixture such as Manchester United v Brighton. A look at the history shows that in 32 games between the two teams, Manchester United have won 20, with five draws and Brighton have just seven wins.
United are also a much bigger team, with many star names earning a lot of money. They are also at home, all of which would suggest that they are the team to back to win on your acca.
However, research shows that of the last five games between the two (as of Jan 2024), the only one that United have won was the FA Cup Semi Final at Wembley, which came on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
Brighton have actually won all the last four Premier League games between the two, scoring 10 goals across those four games, to just two for Manchester United. Not only that, they have won their last two games at Old Trafford too (winning 2-1 and 3-1).
This is not just the case in this fixture. There are many other examples where results have not gone the way you would expect in a particular game and research will bring this to your attention.
You don’t have to overdo the research. Checking out the recent form of the two teams, the head-to-head record, home and away records of both, their league position, any players out through injury or suspension or similar, or any players coming back into the team. All of these can help inform your bet a great deal.
Better Acca Betting Step 4 – Make Sure Your Acca Qualifies For Any Acca Promotions Available On Your Site
Many sites also offer acca promotions now and they can offer the bettor some really good options when it comes to placing an acca bet with a particular provider.
Some of the more common types of promotions include:
- Boosted Odds Accumulator Offers – Accumulators where the standard odds are boosted. This means that if your bet wins, then you would receive more back than through the odds for the bet alone.
- Acca Insurance – Insurance against a stated number of legs letting your accumulator fail. If you trigger this bonus, you tend to get your stake back as a free bet or similar.
