Chelsea v Spurs: does one win change the derby betting angle?

Chelsea host Spurs on 24 October at 5.30pm BST. We compare the home-win and goals angles, with dated bet365 prices and official team news.

Chelsea host Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 24 October 2026, kicking off at 5.30pm BST on Sky Sports. Checked on 20 October, bet365 makes Chelsea 1.666 favourites. Bonus Code Poker (BCP) leans towards the home win over a four-goal bet; Spurs’ first league victory deserves credit, not a parade.

Why are Chelsea favourites after those two wins?

Chelsea beat Bournemouth 5–1 at Stamford Bridge on 10 October, then won 2–0 away to Everton on 17 October. Seven goals across two league wins give the home side a stronger recent case than a derby cliché and a hopeful shrug.

Against Bournemouth, Jordan Henderson and Morgan Rogers put Chelsea two up inside three minutes. Pedro Neto then supplied Joao Pedro from the byline just after half-time. Those goals show different routes through a defence: midfield arrivals as well as a wide player reaching the byline.

At Everton, Neto scored both goals. He explained afterwards that Xabi Alonso changed Chelsea’s build-up at half-time to deal with Everton’s man-to-man pressure on goal-kicks. Jorrel Hato’s work helped create the opener, 43 seconds after the restart.

That gives us a specific question for Saturday: can Spurs close the route out from the back without leaving Chelsea’s wide players room? Chelsea have recently turned that first successful pass through pressure into a chance. Spurs won’t get much comfort from simply looking busy.

There’s a brake on the optimism. Everton was Chelsea’s first league clean sheet of the season, and Martinez made important first-half saves. Two wins are encouraging; they don’t make the goalkeeper’s workload disappear.

How much did Tottenham’s win over Coventry change?

Tottenham’s 3–1 home win over Coventry on 19 October ended a six-game wait for a league victory. James Maddison scored on his first start since 1 May 2025, and Dejan Kulusevski returned as a late substitute after 17 months out. That’s a proper lift for the dressing room.

The goals also gave us something more useful than talk of confidence. Mohammed Kudus set up Maddison’s opener, Omar Marmoush restored the lead after Jack Rudoni equalised, and Ben Davies settled it in stoppage time. Spurs found an answer when the game threatened to get awkward again.

But De Zerbi’s own verdict was cooler than the scoreline. He said Tottenham had played better in other matches and moved the ball too slowly against Coventry’s compact defence. A first win lifts the mood; it doesn’t come with a certificate saying everything is fixed.

The manager explained that midfield availability helped drive his choice of three at the back. He used Maddison between the lines, with Archie Gray moving around Kudus and Andy Robertson higher on the left. Our reading is that Chelsea must defend the pass inside as well as the wide runner. That combination is a more concrete threat than simply expecting a derby to be frantic.

What is the confirmed Chelsea and Tottenham team news?

Chelsea confirm Emiliano Martinez has had surgery on a fractured jaw after the collision at Everton. Mike Penders replaced him in that match. The club’s update gives no return date, so we’re not attaching one or pretending Saturday’s goalkeeper has already been named.

For Spurs, Destiny Udogie missed Coventry as a precaution after a knee problem. De Zerbi also said Lucas Bergvall had been injured and Conor Gallagher had only recently returned. Those details explain Monday’s selection; they don’t confirm who can start at Stamford Bridge.

Maddison’s start and Kulusevski’s brief return are encouraging, but a cameo isn’t a promise of 90 minutes. The final team choices matter to both the attacking combinations and the shape behind them. The tactics board can wait for the team sheet.

What else do you need to know before Chelsea v Spurs?

The kick-off and broadcaster are listed, while the final team sheets are still ahead of us. Here are the quick answers for Saturday.

What time is Chelsea v Tottenham, and which channel has it?

Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur kicks off at 5.30pm BST on 24 October 2026 at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s fixture listing names Sky Sports for viewers in the United Kingdom, checked on 20 October. Your Saturday tea may need a little tactical planning.

Are the starting line-ups confirmed?

As of 20 October 2026, these are injury updates and recent selections, not confirmed derby line-ups. Chelsea have confirmed Martinez’s jaw surgery; Tottenham say Udogie missed Coventry with a knee problem. We’ll leave the imaginary team sheets to the group chat.

Bet365 betting angle: Chelsea win or over 3.5 goals?

Our preference is Chelsea to win in 90 minutes at 1.666, approximately 2/3, ahead of over 3.5 goals at 13/10. Chelsea’s two recent wins offer evidence of several ways to create chances. Maddison’s return strengthens Spurs’ options, but it doesn’t erase those Chelsea performances.

The strongest objection is Chelsea’s goalkeeper situation against a Spurs attack with Maddison back involved. A home-win selection loses if Tottenham draw or win, however well Chelsea play. We’re choosing an angle to examine, not handing out a victory speech in advance.

Over 3.5 goals needs at least four goals from either side combined. Chelsea’s Bournemouth win and Spurs’ Coventry game both cleared that line; Chelsea’s Everton match didn’t. Picking only the noisy scorelines would be a convenient bit of selective memory.

We’d want the confirmed attacking selections before warming to that goals angle. It also differs from both teams to score: 4–0 clears over 3.5, while 1–1 lands both teams to score but misses over 3.5. Our both teams to score guide explains that market. Neither quoted price, on its own, proves value.
