Liverpool host Villarreal at Anfield on 20 October. We weigh bet365’s 1.48 home price against goals markets, recent results and confirmed absences.
Liverpool host Villarreal at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League on 20 October 2026, kicking off at 8pm BST. Checked today at 2.27pm BST, bet365 has Liverpool at 12/25 (1.48). We think the goals prices deserve a look, but that nine-goal night at LASK isn’t a reusable voucher.
BCP looks at what Liverpool’s last two wins actually tell us, and where Villarreal could spoil the script.

Liverpool won 2–1 at Brentford on 17 October, but their comeback came against ten men. Yehor Yarmoliuk went off before half-time; Vitaly Janelt’s second yellow arrived in added time, after both Liverpool goals.
That order matters. Calling it a win over nine men skips most of the afternoon, while calling it a routine away win skips the awkward bits. Víctor Muñoz equalised in the 62nd minute and Alexander Isak made it 2–1 in the 70th.
Liverpool’s club report describes two different routes to goal: Muñoz broke down the right and cut inside; Isak finished after Bradley Barcola headed back Alexis Mac Allister’s delivery. Liverpool found answers, but a long spell with an extra player helped them keep asking questions.
At 1.48, the simple implied probability is about 67.6%, before allowing for the bookmaker’s margin. That’s a price calculation, not our forecast. One comeback against reduced opposition doesn’t tell us Liverpool should win this game two times in three.
Liverpool beat LASK 6–3 in Linz on 14 October, with Barcola scoring a hat-trick. They also conceded all three goals after the hour, so the attacking headline came with a fairly substantial footnote.
Six away goals explain the interest in Liverpool’s attack. Conceding three explains why a home-win angle and a goals angle ask different questions: Liverpool can win without keeping things tidy. Still, one wild evening in Austria can’t set tonight’s score. The scoreboard gets wiped.
Villarreal followed their 3–1 win over Napoli with a 0–0 home draw against Elche on 17 October. Only Alberto Moleiro and Santi Comesaña kept their starting places, according to Villarreal’s report.
The same report describes Villarreal pressing Elche into mistakes and creating chances, including a disallowed goal. Nathan Saliba, Pape Gueye and Georges Mikautadze came on, followed by Gerard Moreno. That gives the goalless score some context; it doesn’t make the missed chances count.
Iñigo Pérez said in his Anfield press conference that he expects Liverpool to press throughout the match. Our reading is that Villarreal’s first passes after regaining possession could decide how often they escape that pressure. Get pinned in and Liverpool can build attacks; get out cleanly and Liverpool have defending to do.
Liverpool’s official news listing confirms Jeremie Frimpong and Dominik Szoboszlai will miss Villarreal’s visit. Both left the Brentford game injured, so Liverpool must alter the options they used on Saturday.
Villarreal’s pre-match press conference confirms Pérez and Gerard Moreno spoke at Anfield, but it doesn’t provide a full availability bulletin. We haven’t confirmed their injury list from a club announcement. Saturday’s substitutes show Pérez’s recent options; they aren’t tonight’s team sheet, however neat a predicted XI might look.
The kick-off and broadcaster are confirmed; the starting teams aren’t established by the sources checked for this preview. These are the useful distinctions before you settle in.

No. Over 2.5 goals needs at least three goals in total, so 3–0 would count. Both teams to score needs a goal from each side; 1–1 would count there. Our 20 October price table covers total goals, so mind the label.
Over 3.5 match goals at 11/10 (2.10) is the angle we’d examine once the teams are confirmed. It needs at least four goals in 90 minutes plus stoppage time. Liverpool’s LASK result supplies the attacking case and the defensive warning in the same package.
The objection is Villarreal’s goalless Saturday: creating chances doesn’t mean finishing them, and Liverpool’s missing players change the personnel. A controlled 2–0 Liverpool win would sink this angle. Four goals is a proper hurdle, even after a night when the scoreboard needed a breather.
Over 2.5 at 9/20 (1.45) costs almost the same as Liverpool to win at 12/25 (1.48), yet covers a different match story. A 2–1 away win would satisfy the goals market; a 1–0 home win would satisfy only the Liverpool result selection. Neither price proves value. We’d want the confirmed attacking selections before taking the LASK comparison any further.
