It was Gameday 7 in the Premier League at the weekend and we saw plenty of intriguing performances and results across the ten matches played.
Heading into the second international break of the season, familiar names are at the top of the table, some unexpected ones are struggling, and several teams still await their first win of the season.
If you can't wait for the next instalment of Premier League games in a fortnight's time, then bet365 Sport has plenty of markets available on the next set of games. But don't forget, you'll also have some fantastic Nations League betting to come over the next week too.
Those results see Liverpool head into the International Break top of the Premier League table with 18 points from seven games. The Reds are a point ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal, who lie second and third.
Chelsea and Aston Villa lie fourth and fifth after losing a little ground on the top three after both teams drew this weekend. Brighton's win over Tottenham moved them up into sixth.
Wolves remain stranded at the bottom of the table with just one point from seven games. Southampton also have just a point but a slightly better goal difference has them one place above Wolves, while Crystal Palace occupy the final relegation spot in 18th.
Ipswich lie 17th, with five points from their last three games seeing Everton climb up to 16th in the table a point behind Leicester who are 15th, with Manchester United in a very disappointing 14th in the table.
Liverpool continues to lead the English Premier League with an impressive performance under manager Arne Slot. Slot has set a club record by securing nine wins out of his first ten games. In their recent match, Diogo Jota scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park after just nine minutes. This win ensured Liverpool remained top of the table this weekend.
However, the team faces challenges as goalkeeper Alisson suffered a suspected hamstring injury, and Alexis Mac Allister went off with a groin issue. making both doubtful for their country's (Brazil & Argentina) upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Manchester City is currently second in the league standings after a thrilling 3-2 win against Fulham. This victory extended their unbeaten home run to 50 games across all competitions. City didn't have things all their own way in this game and fell behind to an Andrea Pereira strike on 26 minutes.
A double from Mateo Kovacic on 32 and 37 minutes put City in front before Jeremy Doku added a third on 82 minutes. However Rodrigo Muniz pulled one back for Fulham on 88 to set up a nervy finish at the Etihad.
Arsenal celebrated a significant milestone by securing their 400th home win in the Premier League era. They achieved this feat with a 3-1 victory over Southampton, where Bukayo Saka played a crucial role by scoring and assisting goals.
It didn't begin well for Arsenal as they fell behind to a Cameron Archer strike on 55 minutes. However, three minutes later Kai Havertz scored in his seventh consecutive home game for Arsenal to bring them level. Gabriel Martinelli then put Arsenal in front on 68 minutes before Saka wrapped up the win on 88 minutes.
Brentford continued their impressive start to the season with a high-scoring 5-3 win against Wolves. Once again the Bees struck early for the fourth game in a row, this time Nathan Collins scoring after just 75 seconds of the game. The lead only lasted two minutes however before Matheus Cunha levelled for Wolves.
A Bryan Mbuemo penalty put Brentford back in front but then Wolves levelled again six minutes later with Jorgen Strand Larsen scoring. However, parity lasted just two minutes before Chtristian Norgaard put Brentford back in front. Ethan Pinnock then headed home a fourth for the Bees just before half time.
Two late goals added further embellishment to the score, Fabio Carvalho making it 5-2, before Rayan Ait-Nouri netted three minutes into added time to make the final score 5-3.
Newcastle United played out a goalless draw against Everton at Goodison Park. Despite the lack of goals, the match was not without drama as Anthony Gordon missed a penalty against his former club. Newcastle's solid defensive performance earned them a valuable point on the road, and they will aim to build on this result in their upcoming fixtures.
Everton meanwhile have now gone three games unbeaten and have moved away from the drop zone with this point.
Leicester City achieved their first win since being promoted back to the top flight by defeating Bournemouth 1-0. This victory was a significant boost for Leicester as they aim to establish themselves in the Premier League. Their goal came from a tremendous strike from Facundo Buonanotte on 16 minutes and despite Bournemouth pressure, the Foxes hung on for that important first victory in the EPL for Steve Cooper's team.
West Ham United secured a convincing 4-1 win over Ipswich Town at London Stadium. This dominant performance highlighted West Ham's attacking capabilities and relieved the pressure on manager Julen Lopetegui after the Hammers had lost all three at home since the start of the season. Michail Antonio scored in the first minute to put West Ham in front but Liam Delap pulled one back for Ipswich just five minutes later.
The game turned around half time. First Mohammed Kudus put West Ham 2-1 up and then four minutes into the second half Jarrod Bowen made it 3-1. Lucas Paqueta added a fourth on 69 minutes as the Hammers recorded 23 shots on goal, 13 on target, in a dominant performance against the Tractor Boys.
Manchester United held out for a goalless draw against Aston Villa, with man of the match Johnny Evans playing a crucial role in their defensive performance. Manager Erik ten Hag made bold team selections by including Evans and Harry Maguire, which resulted in United's best defensive display of the season. However, the Red Devils may be concerned about injuries with Maguire seemingly picking up a nasty injury in the game.
The best chance of the match saw Bruno Fernandes hit the bar for United with a free kick, while Jadon Philogene saw his shot blocked by Diego Dalot when the Villa winger should have done better. Villa had their own injury worries with Ezri Konsa taken off early in the game, making him a doubt for England's upcoming Nations League matches.
Nottingham Forest managed a 1-1 draw against Chelsea despite playing with ten men for the final twelve minutes. Forest remains unbeaten on the road this season, showcasing strong defensive capabilities under Nuno Espirito Santo. After a goalless first half, Chris Wood put Forest in front on 49 minutes, but Noni Madueke levelled for Chelsea after 57.
A bad-tempered game saw James Ward-Prowse given a second yellow for handball in the second half, but despite pressing, Chelsea could not find the winning goal.
Chelsea is facing challenges with discipline as they lead the league in yellow card accumulation. Key defenders Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella will miss upcoming matches due to suspensions, which could impact the team's performance in the league.
Brighton fought back from a 2-0 first half deficit to beat Spurs 3-2 at the AMEX on Sunday and in doing so left Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou angry with the lack of fight shown by his team in the second half.
The game began well enough for Spurs, who had a goal ruled out for offside just moments before Brennan Johnson scored in a sixth consecutive game for the visitors. A short time later, James Maddison added a second, although Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen should really have saved the midfielder's shot.
In full control, Spurs started the second half but when Yakubu Minteh pulled a goal back on 48 minutes, Brighton took full control. Georginio Rutter made it 2-2 just ten minutes later as Spurs fell apart and then Danny Welbeck rounded off a superb comeback with a third on 66 minutes.
A furious Postecoglou labelled this the worst performance by his team since he took over as manager following the game.
Graeme Souness has speculated that Real Madrid might make a £150 million bid for Chelsea's Cole Palmer. Palmer was one of the top players in the Premier League last season, with six goals and five assists in seven games this term.
At 22, Palmer has had more goal involvements than any other player last season and won the Young Player of the Season award. Souness believes Real Madrid could target Palmer next summer if he maintains his current form.
Manchester United‘s board has expressed concerns about Erik ten Hag‘s management of two specific players and has asked him to change his attitude. Ten Hag is under significant pressure as United is 14th in the Premier League, having won only two of their first six games this season.
A recent 3-3 draw with Porto increased the pressure on Ten Hag, despite receiving a one-year contract extension after winning the FA Cup in May. The United board plans to meet to discuss Ten Hag's future, with a number of big names, including Massimo Allegri, Simone Inzaghi, Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Kieran McKenna, Xavi, Gareth Southgate and Zinedine Zidane, linked with the role.
Harry Maguire issued a statement after limping off during Manchester United's match against Aston Villa. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, which was crucial for United manager Erik ten Hag, whose future at Old Trafford is uncertain.
Maguire sustained a nasty injury towards the end of the first half and was forced to leave the game. He posted on social media acknowledging the team's performance and thanking fans for their support but did not provide details about his injury. Updates regarding Maguire's injury are expected to be released in due time.
Jordan Henderson is considering a return to English football, with interest from Premier League and Championship clubs. He left Liverpool in 2023 after leading them to Premier League and Champions League victories. Henderson joined Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League for approximately £12 million but sought a move back to Europe after six months.
His potential return to the Premier League was complicated by tax implications of returning to the UK. Instead, he took a 75% pay cut to join Ajax, aiming for a spot in England's Euro 2024 squad. Reports suggest he wants to leave Ajax after less than 12 months, having made just three league appearances this season.
A season-ending injury to right back Dani Carvajal against Villarreal may mean that Real Madrid bring forward their interest in signing Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold to the January transfer window.
The Liverpool star is out of contract in June 2025, and Madrid had been in the mix to sign the player then, but Carvajal's injury may mean the Spanish giants make their move sooner.
The English Premier League continues to deliver exciting matches and intriguing storylines. From Liverpool's dominance under Arne Slot to Manchester United's managerial concerns, the league remains a captivating spectacle for football fans worldwide.
As teams navigate challenges such as injuries, disciplinary issues, and managerial changes, the competition promises to be as thrilling as ever.
