If last week’s games saw us confirm some of the top, middle and bottom ranked teams in the NFL, Week 13 decided to give everything a bit of a shake up with some very unusual results across the smaller than usual number of games.
With no teams on a bye week, it was a full week of games on the schedule, but that resulted seemingly in more upsets with some unexpected wins, crazy events in games, unexpected scorelines and much more besides.
The eye-popping result was undoubtedly the 49ers thumping win over the Eagles in Philadelphia, a result which will send shockwaves through the NFC.
Similarly, it was a tough week for the Chiefs in the AFC as they went down to a Jordan Love inspired Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
There’s a full selection of games and markets available for Week 13 matches in the NFL, with odds provided by bet365 Sport which were correct at the time of writing if they are quoted in this article.
But let’s now go on and take a look at what happened in what was a strange, dramatic and in many cases, unexpected Week 13 in the NFL.
And it was one that certainly had one of the biggest impacts in the Power Rankings for this season since the opening couple of weeks of the season.
Here’s how the Week 13 games turned out.
Bye Week Teams – Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Las Vegas Raiders, Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants
Heading into the late games on Sunday, I felt I was doing pretty well but defeats for the Eagles, Chiefs and Jaguars turned what could have been a great week into a disappointing one. With 15 games next week though, I’ll be aiming to bounce back.
If Green Bay Packers fans wanted a display to confirm that Jordan Love is going to be their new starter for the long term, they got it on Sunday night. Love put in a superb display as he overcame Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs at Lambeau Field. The Packers are now 6-6 and not out of the playoffs which would be remarkable given that this is Love’s first season as starter.
It was supposed to be a NFC Championship Game preview between two well-matched teams. In the end, the 49ers looked like the team most likely to be Super Bowl bound. Brock Purdy was the model of consistency again as his star-studded team mates put the Eagles to the sword. The Eagles have not been beaten this badly for a long time, but fans will tell you, it has been coming.
Tyreek Hill scored two touchdowns and ran for probably 2000 yards or something against the Commanders as the Dolphins offense simply blew away Washington in their own stadium. Given the Chiefs and Bills woes, the ‘Phins could be a shoe in for the AFC Top Seed which would make things very interesting.
The Titans should have beaten the Colts, but disasters on special teams saw to it that it was Indianapolis who left Memphis with the W. Twice the Titans had punts blocked, from which the Dolphins scored 10 points and then, after punter Stonehouse was injured on one of the blocked punts, Ryan Tannehill and Nick Folk contrived to miss the extra point that would have put the Titans in front by one. Then the Titans lost in overtime. The Titans parted way with their Special Teams co-ordinator on Monday.
For several weeks now, Eagles fans have been complaining a little that while their team is winning, they are not playing particularly well. They also felt that at some point it would come home to roost. So it was proved on Sunday as the 49ers comprehensively outplayed the Eagles in all three phases of the game in Philadelphia. If losses are sobering, this one was also a huge wake up call.
The Cardinals racked up a third win of the season against a strangely lifeless Steelers, who saw Kenny Pickett, their young QB, injured in the game. The Steelers offense could get nothing going however under either signal caller and it was the Cards who came away with a shock win. In a hugely competitive AFC, the Steelers can ill-afford losses like this.
