In a dramatic match, West Ham United secured a 2-1 victory over Manchester United, a game that was not without its controversies.
The match took place on a Sunday, with West Ham initially taking the lead through Crysencio Summerville. Manchester United's Casemiro quickly equalized, setting the stage for a tense last ten minutes.
However, the turning point came when referee David Coote awarded a very late penalty to West Ham after reviewing Matthijs de Ligt's challenge on Danny Ings.
The Premier League explained that the VAR recommended an on-field review due to sufficient contact on Ings' lower leg, leading to the referee overturning his original decision.
Jarrod Bowen successfully converted the penalty, sealing the 2-1 win for West Ham. And leaving Manchester United fans and management furious at the decision.
This defeat left Manchester United in 14th place in the league, with only four wins across all competitions and no wins in Europe following three consecutive draws.
With the pressure already mounting on Ten Hag, there was a feeling that it was only a matter of time before the Manchester United hierarchy made a decision on his future.
That news was to follow less than 24-hours after the game had concluded.
The following morning, Erik Ten Hag was called into a meeting at Carrington, Manchester United's training ground, where he was informed that his contract was being terminated with immediate effect.
The club released a relatively short statement to the press announcing the change and thanking Ten Hag for his efforts during his time at the club.
Immediately, speculation began about who would replace Ten Hag. Bet365 Sport listed the likes of Spaniard Xavi Hernandez, ex-England manager Gareth Southgate and current Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann amongst the early front-runners for the post.
However, by the afternoon it appeared that Manchester United had begun talks with Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim over taking over the helm at Old Trafford.
Amorim has changed the fortunes of Sporting Lisbon since taking over as coach, leading Sporting to a first Portuguese League title win in 19 years and overseeing a return to the Champions League.
He was widely linked with the Liverpool job in the summer, before the Reds opted to appoint Arne Slot.

In another Premier League clash, Arsenal fans were left frustrated with referee Anthony Taylor during their 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
Former Premier League referee Mike Dean stated that Taylor had a good game, but acknowledged some home fans disagreed.
Taylor was criticized for not punishing Luis Diaz for kicking the ball away, an offense that previously led to red cards for Arsenal players Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard.
Similarly a Kai Havertz goal was ruled out in the second half for a foul on a Liverpool defender which looked very harsh. Although a subsequent push on Trent Alexander-Arnold may well have seen the goal disallowed anyway.
