Well, the less said about last week’s set of tips for Matchday 35 the better!

We landed just the one correct bet in the final game of the weekend, the Nottingham Forest v Southampton game on Monday, so I shall be looking to do a lot better this week that is for sure.

Forest’s win in that game has all but relegated Southampton and while the Saints are not mathematically certain to go down, they may well be confirmed as relegated this week unless they win and other results go for them.

For this set of tips we are looking at Matchday 36 in the Premier League and with almost all teams now having played 35 games (just four teams have not played the full amount of games), things are looking a little clearer in the table.

We have some cracking matches to look forward to this week too, with so many games affecting what could happen at the top and bottom of the table.

So let’s get cracking by looking at the game that will kick it all off on Saturday lunchtime as Leeds United face a battle for survival against Champions League-chasing Newcastle United.

Premier League Matchday 36

All games kick off at 3pm unless otherwise stated.

Saturday 13th May

Leeds United v Newcastle United (12.30pm)

After dropping into the relegation zone last week due to wins for Everton and Nottingham Forest, Leeds now find themselves needing to pick up a win over Newcastle United to give themselves a chance of moving out of the drop zone. Newcastle, on the other hand, are looking to bounce back from a 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal last weekend which dented their hopes of Champions League football. Can Big Sam bring a win to Leeds? I am not too sure and I’m backing Newcastle to land the win.

Our Tip – Newcastle United to win 4/6.

Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur

Both of these teams are in the battle for a European place this season and while Champions League football looks unlikely for both, a place in the Europa League or the Europa Conference League is a very distinct possibility. Villa have home advantage and their form, up until the last two games, has been excellent. Spurs form has been more indifferent and inconsistent but they are playing better under Ryan Mason now. However, I can’t see this one finishing in favour of either team.

Our Tip – Draw – 13/5

Chelsea v Nottingham Forest

Frank Lampard finally landed his first win in his second spell as Chelsea manager last weekend with a 3-1 win at Bournemouth, and he’ll be hoping to build on that here against a Nottingham Forest side that has been conceding plenty of goals of late. The perceived wisdom here is that Chelsea will win this game pretty comfortably, but I’m not so sure. Forest are fighting hard to stay up and I have a sneaky feeling that they may land a surprise draw here.

Our Tip – Take the draw here – 18/5

Crystal Palace v Bournemouth

Both these sides look well set to stay in the Premier League and that didn’t look too likely for either of them a few months back. Both have managed to pick up enough positive results to move out of the danger zone and into relative safety. Palace for me are the better of the two teams though and also have home advantage and I’d expect Roy Hodgson’s team to put that to good use to enable them to come away with a win here.

Our Tip – Back Palace to land a narrow 2-1 win here at 17/2

Manchester United v Wolves

Manchester United come into this game knowing that they must pick up a win especially with Liverpool breathing down their necks for the Champions League qualification spot that United currently own. The Red Devils have been poor away from home of late, but so have Wolves and at home United have remained fairly unshakeable in the main. As such I see this is a low scoring win for the home side.

Our Tip – Goals have been in short supply of late for both teams, so take Christian Eriksen to score at any time at 11/2.

Southampton v Fulham

Southampton can stay up, but in truth the odds are very much against it. They must win out and hope results go their way for other teams also battling relegation and I can’t see either of those things happening. In fact, I think after today Southampton will be relegated as I can see this decent Fulham team having a real chance to land the win they need to maintain a top half spot and also send the Saints down.

Our Tip – The Saints must win here but I think Fulham will do a job on them. Back Fulham at 29/20.

Sunday 14th May

Brentford v West Ham United (2pm)

The Bees great season sees them comfortably in ninth place in the table, eight points ahead of big-spending Chelsea and the third highest placed team from the capital after Arsenal and Tottenham. They face another London side in West Ham who probably have one eye on their Europa Conference League second leg tie with AZ Alkmaar on Thursday next week. That said, the Hammers beat Manchester United last time out and I just wonder if they could spring something of a surprise here too to land the win.

Our Tip – West Ham to land a surprise win at – 13/5

Everton v Manchester City (2pm)

After their 5-1 win at Brighton last week, Everton fans will be jubilant after moving out of the drop zone with three games to go, but they now face table-toppers Manchester City in what looks like being another very tough game. City come into this on the back of a fine 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in Spain in midweek in the Champions League and on the back of a long run of Premier League wins. It would be a huge surprise if City don’t pick up the maximum points here.

Our Tip – Erling Braut Haaland (Man City) to score first – 5/2

Arsenal v Brighton (4.30pm)

Arsenal showed real mettle last week with a 2-0 win away to Newcastle United which keeps up their title hopes and means Manchester City remain under pressure, albeit with a game in hand. Brighton come into this game on the back of a 5-1 defeat at home to Everton in one of the shock results of the season. The south coast side will want to put that right here, but it is hard to see Arsenal letting this one slip at home.

Our Tip – Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) to score the first goal – 7/1

Monday 15th May

Leicester City v Liverpool (8pm)

The Foxes have had a miserable season, sacking Brendan Rodgers as he struggled to get the most out of a team that has let a number of top defensive players leave, without adequately replacing them it seems. With 64 goals conceded, the Foxes are very weak defensively which has been their undoing this season. Liverpool’s up and down season has finally found some consistency with six wins from their last six games and it would be a brave man to back against them landing win number 7 in a row here.

Our Tip – Liverpool to win and both teams to score – 7/4
