Are you prepared for the 2022/23 World Darts Championship? It’s hitting our screens and our hearts later on this year and we’re already gearing up for the action.

If you want to join us in getting hyped, check out all of the facts we know so far about one of darts’ most hotly anticipated events, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation.

2022/23 World Darts Championship dates

As of 19:00 GMT on Thursday, 15 December, the 2022/23 World Darts Championship will have begun. The action continues for nine days and then there’s a little Christmas break. There will be no matches on Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day (in other words, from 24 December until 26 December).

Then there will be another break on New Year’s Eve, also known as 31 December. From New Year’s Day, the action will continue on until Tuesday, 3 January. The final kicks off that day on 20:00 GMT. So whatever the new year holds, we certainly know where we’ll be that day, watching the action unfold in front of our TV screens.

The venue

The 2022/23 World Darts Championship takes places in Alexandra Palace, London. That’s where the action has been for well over a decade, since 2008. So this is definitely the spiritual home of the event at this stage.

How big is the 2022/23 World Darts Championship?

Sometimes it’s hard to quantify how big a sporting event will be before it even takes place. But it’s good to have a bit of an idea all the same. This year, 96 players are taking part in the event. This makes it a sizeable playing field for people to battle it out on.

And in terms of monetary compensation, there’s no wonder it’s a well attended event. There is £2.5 million in cash up for grabs during the event to the victorious players.

Who are this year’s players to watch?

With 96 players, it might be difficult to decipher who are the best players in the field this year. And of course, we won’t really know until people start firing the darts and those circular boards.

However, we can of course make an educated guess. Peter Wright won the title in the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship, so everyone is certainly going to be paying attention to his matches. However, he’s not actually the bookie’s favorite.

Right now, people are expecting big things from Michael van Gerwen. He’s outright favorite at the moment. Next up is the extraordinarily talented Gerwyn Price, followed by Peter Wright.
