World Cup 2026 betting markets: a completed-tournament guide

The 2026 World Cup has finished. This archive explains the different market questions in our original tournament guide, using clear examples rather than reviving expired boosts or recommending bets on completed fixtures. For any old wager, its accepted market and period matter more than the headline result.
The final shows why the market wording matters
Spain won the 2026 World Cup, beating Argentina 1–0 after extra time on 19 July. The final stood at 0–0 after normal time before Ferran Torres scored in the 106th minute, as recorded in bet365’s UK final live blog. Winning the tournament and winning a 90-minute match-result selection were therefore different outcomes.
bet365’s UK result rules normally use 90 minutes plus stoppage time, excluding extra time and shootouts unless stated otherwise. Check a separately labelled qualification, trophy or extra-time selection on its own terms; the same match can have different outcomes in different markets.
Match-result and goals selections

The home label refers to the team listed first for betting, even at a neutral ground. Double Chance covers two outcomes, but a losing outcome still loses the stake. It is not insurance, and no market becomes profitable merely because it covers more possibilities.
The UK goalscoring rules distinguish normal-time correct scores from separately identified extra-time markets. Read the selected period before comparing a final score with a bet slip. Splitting a stake across several correct scores increases the total exposure; it does not make an omitted score pay.
Asian lines: a refund is not a win
Under bet365’s UK Asian Handicap rules, a team giving a one-goal start must win by at least two for a full win; a one-goal win returns the stake. A team receiving +0.5 wins the selection if it wins or draws. These are settlement conditions, not forecasts.
The UK Goal Line rules treat Over 2 differently from Over 2.5: exactly two goals returns the stake on Over 2 but loses on Over 2.5. Over 2.25 splits the line into 2 and 2.5; exactly two goals returns half the stake and loses half. For in-play goal lines, goals already scored still count; the Asian Handicap in-play rule instead assesses the remainder after acceptance. Do not interchange the two.
Tournament markets and the group format
FIFA’s format explanation records twelve groups of four, with the top two and eight best third-placed teams progressing to the Round of 32. There was no automatic qualification for every third-placed side. A group-winner selection and a qualification selection consequently asked different questions.
Tournament winner, reaching the final, stage of elimination and an ordered group forecast also describe different outcomes. A forecast that requires first and second in order is not the same as selecting two teams to qualify. The accepted bookmaker wording decides whether a particular special includes all teams, an identified subset or a specified stage.
Winning continent, the eventual winner’s original group and first-time champion specials should likewise be read literally where offered. They are not interchangeable with backing an individual country, and their presence in this explainer is not evidence that a current or historic account had every special available.
Top scorer is not always the official Golden Boot
The UK tournament goalscorer rules count normal-time and extra-time goals, exclude shootout goals and apply dead-heat rules to Top Goalscorer rather than simply following the Golden Boot award. Top Team Goalscorer narrows the field to the specified team. Do not settle a shared scoring lead from the award winner’s name alone.
For whole-tournament goals totals, bet365’s UK tournament totals rules include extra-time goals but exclude shootout goals. Totals for an identified set of dated fixtures use normal-time goals. The published scope is part of the selection, not a detail to guess afterwards.
Builders, in-play and the expired boosts
bet365’s UK Bet Builder explanation describes combining selections from the same fixture, with a calculated price that accounts for their relationship. It is not a licence to multiply correlated individual prices yourself. The feature’s availability on selected sports does not establish that every World Cup match had every player, card or corner selection.

Checking an old bet without guessing
Start with the accepted selection, market period, price and stake. Compare the official result for that scope, then read the relevant settlement and promotion terms. Keep cash winnings distinct from a returned stake or a credit balance. Watching a match closely does not guarantee an advantage, and this archive supplies no new picks or claimed betting profit.
