You probably didn’t notice but the 2020 World Series of Poker is now officially in the books. And if you were one of the few that paid attention, WOW, that shit was weird, wasn’t it?
From July 1st to the beginning of September, just over 30,000 gold bracelets were awarded through WSOP.com (sure, makes sense) and GG Poker (dude, wait, what?). But do you remember anything that happened? Sure, we all know about Vladislav Gorbechev’s legendary run this summer, passing Phil Hellmuth as the all-time WSOP bracelet winner, taking down 37 bracelets this year alone.
In fact, with an influx of new WSOP bracelets this year, Hellmuth now sees himself as 23rd in the all-time bracelet standings. This despite Hellmuth playing in virtually all the events this summer but unfortunately not finishing higher than 53rd, which occurred during his performance in the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Heads-Up (64 players max) event.
How about the winner of the 2020 Main Event, the player that many call the undisputed champion of poker, the next great ambassador to the game, the player who will help define the next decade of poker?
The honor goes to BonusCodePoker’s own Pete Carter, who braved a trip to Mexico amidst the pandemic and going out in public as the poker parody world’s most notorious writer.
Actually, it wasn’t Carter who took down poker’s greatest prize, as he was banned for life after winning $138 during his first cash game session on GG Poker at the hotel.
Sadly, in extensive research done for this article, we could not find the World Series of Poker Main Event winner this year, and we are pretty sure you don’t know either. If you do, however, have information about the identity or whereabouts of the 2020 WSOP winner, please call 1-800-843-5678.
World Series of Poker officials are concerned that if a winner is not identified, that this 2020 version of the series may have difficulty shedding its reputation as “the one where Daniel Negreanu threatened a Twitch viewer with an anal-teeth feeding.”
