Another handful of gold bracelets were awarded over the weekend as 2021 World Series of Poker action completes its first full week. Among the winners was high stakes pro Connor Drinan, who took home his second gold bracelet after winning the $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or better, the 5th event of the series.

In his path to victory, Drinan outlasted 607 entries over three days to win the first-place prize of $163,252. Drinan beat an all-American table that included Travis Pearson head-up, 4-time WSOP bracelet winner Robert Mizrachi and Sandy Sanches. “I just played my normal game and ran good,” said Drinan after the victory but was sure to thank his PLO coach. “This win is dedicated to Mike Fasco for the expensive O/8 lessons.”
With the win, Drinan ups his lifetime winnings to $11,458,404, which is good enough for 78th all-time according to the Hendon Mob. Drinan’s bracelet also follows his first WSOP victory last year when he won the $10,000 WSOP Super MILLION$ online for a $1,423,049 first-place prize on GG Poker.
Jesse Klein only has five cashes to his name, but his first recorded cash 11 years is a big one after coming up on top of the $25,000 HORSE (Event #2) on Saturday to win a prize of $552,182 in addition to his first gold bracelet. He prefers high stakes cash games, but made the flight from Philadelphia to play in the first high buy-in event of the 2021 WSOP.
“I have a wife and two kids – a six-year-old girl and a three-year-old son. I came out here to play this event and that’s it. Maybe I’ll come back out here since I won this.”
Klein defeated a field of 78 over three days to claim the victory, including a handful of multiple bracelet winners – Benny Glaser, David Benyamine and Ben Yu. Phil Hellmuth was denied his 16th bracelet after finishing in 6th place to win $95,329.
The first two WSOP.com events — of the fall run of events — also began over the weekend with the start of the $5,300 No Limit Hold’em Freezout and the $500 No Hold’em Big 500. Martin Zamini won the $5,300 NL Hold’em Freezeout for $210,600 and his second WSOP bracelet.
Meanwhile, “NJ_AcesmarkA” takes down the Big 500 to win a $89,356 first-place prize, defeating a total of 742 entries.
The $500 Reunion continues to attract large crowds with 12,975 players entering the event over 3 flights, generating a prize pool of $5,449,500. Heading into Monday’s action, 638 players return to battle it out with Robert Brobyn holding a narrow chip lead.

Tyler Cornell sits atop of the chip counts after 2 days of Event #6, the $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em 8-handed. Just five players return to the action on the final table as the remaining players are guaranteed $216,842 with $833,289 going to first place. Following Cornell is Michael Liange, Jonathan Jaffe, Mustapha Kanit and Adrian Mateos with the short stack. The action resumes at 4 PM.
Nathan Gamble finished Day 1 of the 2021 WSOP $1,500 Dealers Choice (Event #7) with the chip lead after play on Sunday night. Gamble sits ahead of a list of 88 players, which was whittled down from 307 entries. Gamble is joined by notable stacks that include Ray Henson (2nd in chips), Daniel Negreanu, Matt Glantz, Eli Eleza, Phil Hellmuth and Norman Chad.
In addition to the four events that are ongoing, there are another couple of events getting started today.
Event #8, the $600 No Limit Hold’em Deepstack gets underway at 11 AM PT. Next up is a big one that is sure to attract some big names, the $10,000 Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or Better Championship. Cards will begin to fly for the event starting at 3 PM PT.
