Watching The WSOP 2021

It’s here — the return of the 2021 World Series of Poker, which will host a full schedule of events for the first time at the Rio in more than two years. The action got underway on September 30th and continues well into November.

While some poker fans and poker players are planning to make the pilgrimage to Las Vegas this fall, others will be following the action exclusively from a distance through news reports as well as live streams and broadcasts.

With the return of a live WSOP making its return to the poker world, what are your options to watch this year’s events?

WSOP Main Event coverage moves to CBS Sports Network

After more than two decades of broadcasting the World Series of Poker Main Event on poker fans’ television screens, ESPN will no longer broadcast the iconic event. Instead, coverage will be picked up by CBS Sports Network, which is available on the Parmount+ streaming service. The CBS Sports Network is not the same as the more widely available CBS Sports.

CBS Sports will showcase 15 hours of Main Event coverage, plus 36 hours of additional content from 18 other WSOP events through a partnership with PokerGo. Longtime WSOP commentators on ESPN, Lon McEachern and Norman Chad, will continue their long-standing roles on the new network.

In addition to Parmount+, poker fans can access the channel through DirecTV on channel 221, DISH channel 158 or through certain cable providers.

Check out Main Event coverage on the following days on PokerGo, which is where you will want to tune in if you want to see as much 2021 WSOP Main Event action as possible.

Watching select coverage on CBS Sports

CBS Sports has broadcasted recorded episodes of select events including the $25,000 High Roller, $1,500 Millionaire Maker, $50,000 High Roller and the $50,000 Poker Players Championship. The first half of episodes were streamed in early November through early December.

The second half of the schedule is expected to be released soon.

Watch The 2021 WSOP Europe

Watching at the Rio

If you plan on being in the middle of the action, some poker fans will also be given the option to watch it at the Rio as in years past. But that’s about where the similarities end. Attendees will be subject to many of the same restrictions for watching the WSOP as the players themselves.

All attendees will be required to be vaccinated in order to watch and show proof that they have been vaccinated. This can be done at the “verification center” at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino Belize Room.

Note that doing so does not guarantee that you will be allowed entry as the WSOP says that only a “limited number of spectators may be allowed.” Spectators may also be asked to leave at any time for any reason “at the sole discretion of hotel staff.”

In addition to being vaccinated, attendees will also be required to wear masks. The mask requirement was recently waived for players seated at the table, but those who are not playing — including unvaccinated dealers — will have to wear a mask.
