Understand accumulator and parlay terminology, doubles and trebles, checked payout examples, void selections and related-event restrictions.

An acca is an accumulator: one bet combining several selections, with the return depending on every remaining selection winning. A single losing selection loses the whole ordinary win-only bet. It is not a collection of separately paid singles.
A double has two selections, a treble has three, and a four-fold has four. The word multiple covers bets containing more than one selection; it also covers combination bets that have several lines, so it does not always mean one accumulator.
Terminology varies. bet365’s UK football explainer uses accumulator for four or more selections, distinguishing doubles and trebles. Its US guide defines a parlay as two or more legs. Parlay is the US name for the same linked-return structure, not a rule that requires at least four selections. Use the named bet type on the accepted slip rather than relying on an informal label.
| Bet | Selections | Number of ordinary win-only lines |
|---|---|---|
| Double | 2 | 1 |
| Treble | 3 | 1 |
| Four-fold | 4 | 1 |
| Trixie | 3 | 4: three doubles and a treble |
For a cash-stake win-only accumulator with no settlement adjustments, multiply the decimal prices, then multiply that combined price by the stake. Total return includes the stake; profit is the return minus that stake. Add one to fractional odds to obtain the decimal price: 2/1 becomes 3.00, for example.
Here is a hypothetical £10 four-fold at decimal prices of 2.00, 2.00, 5.00 and 7.00. There are no named teams, runners or dated events: these are teaching prices, not current bet365 odds.
| Step | Calculation | Return carried forward |
|---|---|---|
| Selection A wins | £10 × 2.00 | £20 |
| Selection B wins | £20 × 2.00 | £40 |
| Selection C wins | £40 × 5.00 | £200 |
| Selection D wins | £200 × 7.00 | £1,400 |
The combined decimal price is 140.00. If all four win, £10 × 140.00 gives £1,400 total return and £1,390 profit. If any one loses, the ordinary accumulator returns £0 and loses the £10 stake. These examples exclude deductions, dead heats, bonus payments and non-cash stakes.
The BCP bet calculator guide explains inputs and the difference between return and profit. A calculator checks arithmetic; it does not improve the chance of winning.
Under bet365’s UK accumulator settlement guidance, a void selection is removed and the bet is settled on the remaining selections. Void does not mean lose. In the example above, if D is void while A, B and C win, the reduced cash-stake calculation is £10 × 2.00 × 2.00 × 5.00 = £200 return and £190 profit.
Bet Builder has separate settlement guidance. Do not transfer the ordinary accumulator rule to every same-event bet or assume an injured player automatically makes a selection void. The actual sport, market and accepted bet type matter.
Ordinary multiples cannot simply multiply interrelated prices as though the outcomes were unrelated. A team to win and that team to win 1–0 overlap: the correct score already includes the match win. bet365 identifies such related contingencies and offers exceptions such as eligible Bet Builders with specially quoted prices.
A same-event bet is therefore not automatically excluded from the broader idea of a parlay. What matters is the permitted product and its quoted price. Our Bet Builder guide separates a same-event Builder from Bet Builder+ combinations.
A large possible return does not make an accumulator low risk. Every required winning outcome adds a condition; one losing leg can lose the entire stake even when the others win. Each-way multiples add a separately staked place part where offered; they do not remove the possibility of losing both parts.
Check the total stake, accepted selections, final price and possible return before confirming any bet. Do not assume a boost, insurance refund or other promotion applies. Eligibility and payment rules are separate from ordinary accumulator arithmetic and must be checked against the current offer shown to you.
