How does a Trixie bet work? Lines, stakes and payout examples
A Trixie has three doubles and a treble. See its total cost, checked payout examples, the difference between return and profit, and each-way line counts.

A Trixie combines three selections into four bets: the three possible doubles and one treble. It contains no singles. In a standard win-only Trixie, with no void selections, at least two selections must win for a return. That return does not necessarily cover the total stake.
The four lines and total cost

The unit stake applies to each line. A £1-per-line Trixie costs £4; at £5 per line the total cost is £20. If a calculator asks for the total stake, enter £4 for the first example, not £1. Check how the actual bet slip labels its stake field.
A worked example with hypothetical odds
Suppose A has fractional odds of 9/2, B is 8/1 and C is 7/2. Those become decimal prices of 5.50, 9.00 and 4.50. These are illustrative prices without named runners or an event date, not current bet365 odds.

If all selections win, add all four line returns: £49.50 + £24.75 + £40.50 + £222.75 = £337.50. Subtract the whole £4 Trixie stake to get £333.50 profit. The treble return alone is not the total payout.
What happens if only two selections win?

Those particular two-winner examples show a profit because of the chosen prices. They do not establish a general profit guarantee. If the two winners were each 1/2, their decimal prices would be 1.50: the only winning £1 double would return £2.25, which is £1.75 less than the £4 total cost.
Trixie versus a treble or Patent
A treble is one line requiring all three selections to win. At a £1 unit stake it costs £1, whereas a Trixie costs £4. A Patent adds the three singles to the Trixie’s four lines, giving seven bets and a £7 cost at £1 per line. Its singles can produce a return with one winner, but that is not necessarily a profit.
For four selections, a Yankee has 11 multiple lines; a Lucky 15 adds four singles for 15 lines. More lines mean a larger total stake at the same unit amount. Our bet calculator guide explains the line counts and the difference between return and profit.
Each-way Trixies
An each-way Trixie has four win lines and four place lines. At £1 per line for each part, the total stake is £8. Calculate the win and place sides separately, using each selection’s advertised place fraction and qualifying positions. A selection that wins also counts as placed under its applicable each-way terms.
For example, if all three selections place but only one wins, none of the win doubles or the win treble succeeds, while the four place lines can return money. The amount depends on the place odds and any settlement adjustments. Do not apply the full win odds to the place lines.
Before checking a Trixie payout
Confirm all four lines, the total cost and each selection’s settled result. The worked tables assume cash stakes, no non-runners, no dead heats, no Rule 4 deductions and no promotional additions. If those conditions differ, use the market rules and the accepted bet slip rather than the unadjusted example.
