Distinguish American-football game lines and Super Bowl markets, with fictional score examples and UK checks for overtime, scoring props, futures and multiple bets.

American-football moneyline, spread and total bets answer different questions. A team can win the match but lose against its spread, while the total ignores which team wins. This guide uses fictional scores to explain the arithmetic and points UK readers to bet365’s market-specific settlement rules; it does not quote current fixture prices.
A moneyline selection is on the winning team in the specified market, without adding or subtracting a points handicap. Before comparing prices, read whether the market includes overtime and how a tie settles. A two-way winner market and a three-way regulation-time result are not interchangeable.
The UK two-way rules state that push rules apply unless otherwise specified: an ordinary single has its stake returned, while a selection in a multiple is treated as a non-runner. A push is not a winning selection paid at the full odds.
Use this fictional final score: Team A 27, Team B 24. Team A wins the match by three points. If you selected Team A −3.5, its adjusted score is 23.5 against Team B’s 24, so it fails to cover. Team B +3.5 has an adjusted score of 27.5 against Team A’s 27, so it covers despite losing the match.
A positive spread can let a selection cover while losing by less than the allowance; it does not require a victory by more than that allowance. A negative spread requires the selected team to overcome the deduction, not merely avoid a large defeat.
With the same fictional score and a −3/+3 line, each adjusted comparison finishes level. In a conventional two-way spread market subject to the cited push rule, that is a push. A half-point line avoids an exact tie on an integer final score, but does not make either selection safe.
The number next to a team can also be a price rather than a handicap. Team A −3.5 describes a spread; American odds −150 describe a payout ratio. BCP’s sports-odds explanation separates those figures and calculates profit versus total return.
For the fictional 27–24 score, the combined total is 51. An over 50.5 selection wins and an under 50.5 selection loses, assuming those are the points counted by the accepted market. At a two-way line of 51, equality instead raises the push rule. A match total differs from a single-team total, a quarter total and a total restricted to regulation time.
The line is a quoted threshold, not proof of the expected average score. A bookmaker can quote different lines and prices; do not assume every spread or total has equal prices, always sits at 10/11, or accurately measures the teams’ difference in ability.
The UK pre-game team rules say game lines, including second-half and fourth-quarter bets, include overtime unless stated otherwise. That qualification matters: the exclusions page says Double Result excludes overtime and defines First Quarter/Match Result using regulation time.
For in-play markets, the results/scoring rules likewise describe overtime in second-half and fourth-quarter bets unless otherwise stated. Read the accepted period and exact market, rather than transferring a general match rule to every prop or score bet.
A prop concerns a named occurrence or statistic rather than just the match winner. Read the participant, statistic, period and action requirements. For example, the UK player-prop rules count only forward passes for a catch-in-drive market and exclude a reception nullified by a penalty. A player’s apparent involvement alone does not establish settlement.
Season and outright selections use their named competition and endpoint. Do not carry a 2022 divisional or Super Bowl list forward as a current market inventory. The official American-football rules index separates season, futures and game markets so you can find the applicable section.
A parlay is a multiple-selection bet, often called an accumulator in the UK. Adding selections changes the bet’s conditions; an ordinary losing accumulator does not pay its winning legs as separate singles. BCP’s accumulator guide explains the distinction. Do not assume related same-game selections can be combined by multiplying standalone prices; check the combination accepted by the actual product.
Bet365’s UK teaser help describes fixed adjustments to spreads or totals in exchange for a lower potential payout. Its push treatment has a specific exception: a push in a two-team teaser makes the whole bet a push. That is not a general rule for every parlay or Bet Builder.
A Super Bowl-winner outright concerns which team becomes champion. A bet on an AFC or NFC conference winner instead concerns the team reaching the Super Bowl, as the UK futures rules explain. If a market offers a finalist pairing or forecast, read whether it also requires the winning team in the correct order; a pairing alone does not establish the terms.
A season MVP award and Super Bowl MVP concern different awards. Do not assume the favourites or price history for one apply to the other. BCP’s futures-market guide explains season endpoints and award rules. No current finalist, MVP selection or price appears in this guide.
The spread, moneyline and total examples above still concern the specified game period. A winning-margin market adds a margin band; it is not the same as simply backing the winner. A first-score method asks how the first qualifying score occurs, while a first-team-to-score market asks which team scores. Verify the definition of a qualifying score on the particular market.
For touchdown-scorer markets, bet365’s UK pre-game player rules distinguish first, last, multiple and anytime scorers. Players credited with passing touchdowns do not count as the touchdown scorer for these markets. The stated participant-action requirements and team defence/special-teams treatment matter; a quarterback throwing a touchdown is not by itself a winning anytime-scorer selection.
The first scorer and an anytime scorer face different conditions, but neither is a reliable or “easy” win. A high regular-season touchdown total does not guarantee a score in this game, let alone the first one. Market rules explain settlement, not which selection offers an advantage.
A same-game combination also needs the combinations and price the product actually accepts. Do not multiply standalone prices for related selections and present that as an available Bet Builder quote. This section describes market questions, not a current catalogue, offer or recommendation to place several bets.
Record the selected team or statistic, line, price and period from the accepted slip. The UK general rules distinguish interrupted, abandoned and completed fixtures; a displayed score alone may not decide every unsettled market. This article’s sums demonstrate the labels, not the outcome of a live claim.
