However, when the dust settles, we always end up with the same results. One team Champions, a number qualifying for European Competition next season, the majority staying in the same division next season and three dropping down into the Championship to be replaced by the three promoted teams.
This season, those teams were:
And now it only seems fitting to round off the season in style with our own BRC End of Season Premier League Awards, a bit of fun to highlight the great and perhaps, not so great performers of the Premier League season.
For each award, we will give you a list of six nominees in the style of The Oscars, before revealing the winner (but the good news is, you won’t have to put up with some prattling long-winded speech from the winner, so it is a win/win for everyone!)
So let’s begin with a look at the nominees for Best Premier League Team in 2022/23
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Manchester City
And it has to be. Winning the league, potentially the FA Cup and the Champions League and given their level of performance, nobody is even close. And they are still trying to get better too.
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Brighton
Pep Guardiola has hailed Brighton as one of the best football playing teams in the world. He’s not wrong. The Seagulls play some outstanding football and have been fantastic to watch all season long.
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Arsenal
You could make a case for Brighton or Newcastle here, but the Gunners pushed City so hard for most of the season that it would be unjust for another team to get the prize in this category.
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Pep Guardiola (Man City)
It had to be. Landing his fifth Premier League title in six years with City and a potential Treble on the cards, Guardiola won this by a country mile this season. And he appeared in Ted Lasso too!
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Michael Oliver
There’s a reason Oliver is so highly regarded by UEFA and FIFA and that is because he is a consistent referee who is also a strong 4th official and one of the best VAR officials too.
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – David Raya (Brentford)
The Bees keeper has had anb outstanding campaign and is being strongly linked with a move to a top six team this summer, and to land the Spanish Number 1 slot for the National Team too.
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Kieran Trippier (Newcastle United)
Trippier has more than paid back his transfer fee from Atletico Madrid, establishing himself as the best and most consistent right back in the Premier League this season.
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Manuel Akanji (Manchester City)
Signed from Dortmund Akanji has filled in superbly right across the back line before establishing himself as Dias main partner after an outstanding first season with City. And he’s not bad at maths either!
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Rodri (Manchester City)
The Spaniard has been City’s most consistent performer in a holding midfield or central defensive role, and has weighed in with a number of key goals and assists too.
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)
The best player in the Premier League by far. He is the X-factor that makes Manchester City tick and who provides the ammunition for Haaland and company in attack.
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
The Reds may have struggled but their Egyptian King enjoyed another outstanding season personally with 19 EPL goals and 11 assists.
The Nominees:
…And the Winner Is… – Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
A phenomenal first season in the EPL for the young Norwegian setting a new season record of 36 goals and netting over 50 in all competitions for his team.
Join us again next season when it all kicks off again, after a summer of lots of transfers, in August 2023!
