Bucs Or The Chiefs? Who Wins Super Bowl LV This Sunday?

By Ian John
February 15, 2022

This weekend sees one of the biggest sporting events of the year taking place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida. The home team Tampa Bay Buccaneers will become the first NFL team to contest the Super Bowl on their homefield. Their opponents are the defensive Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

It is a game that pits the greatest player of all time, Tom Brady, who has a record six Super Bowl victories to his name from nine previous appearances, taking on the man who many feel could eventually supplant him as the greatest player in the NFL; Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

After recovering from a concussion sustained in the win over the Cleveland Browns, Mahomes played a key role in the Chiefs win over the Bills to get them to their second Super Bowl in succession. They now face a daunting task of taking on a team playing on their home field and with the greatest quarterback of all time directing their offense.

Where Will Super Bowl LV Be Won And Lost?

Chiefs Offense V Buccaneers Defense

The key to stopping the Chiefs lies in stopping their offense from racking up points. Only a handful of teams over the course of the season have been able to do this and even then, it also relies on a superb performance from the opposition offense to clinch the win. Against a decent and experience Buccaneers defense, Patrick Mahomes will likely be tested early on. However, I feel in Tyreek Hill at wide receiver and tight end Travis Kelce, they have two players who will likely be a nightmare for the Bucs defense to match up with.

The Bucs defense have been playing some decent football over the post-season, but they have not faced an offense as dynamic or as talented as what the Chiefs have, and they will need to raise their game by several factors to stand a chance of stopping them. Even with home field advantage.

Buccaneers Offense v Chiefs Defense

Tom Brady has been generally excellent for the Buccaneers this season but at times he has been a little flaky and it is worth noting he was intercepted three times by the Packers in the NFC Conference game. The Packers couldn’t convert those opportunities into the win, but if Brady does that against a Chiefs defense likely to be every bit as good as the Packers, then Tampa won’t stand a chance.

If Chris Jones and the offensive line can rush Brady, the Chiefs defense will pressure the legend quarterback into mistakes. Therefore, the Bucs offensive line needs to offer Brady far greater protection than it managed against Green Bay. That could be tough against a defense which always tends to show up in key moments.

Special Teams Comparison

This is where the stats reveal a big difference between the two teams. The Chiefs are ranked 1st on special teams in the NFL this season. The Buccaneers are ranked 26th. In a game that could be tight, could it be a play on special teams that turns the game in the favour of one team or another?

If that is the case, then the Chiefs look best set to be the one profiting from a game-changing special teams play.

Super Bowl LV Score Prediction and Tips

There is going to be so much to enjoy in this game. Two power offenses, a team built to win today against a team built to win today but set up to improve still further in future years. The greatest of all time against the quarterback who could inherit that mantle one day.

I do think we will see plenty of points scored here. The Chiefs are slow starters in big games at times and on home soil, Tampa could take an early lead in this game.

That said, I think the Chiefs will then start to find their range and rhythm and that is when this game will turn in their favour as so far, no team has come up with a guaranteed way to stop them. They were bettered over three quarters by the 49ers in last years Superbowl but turned on the turbo late in the game to secure the win.

I can see more to and fro scoring in this game but I think the Chiefs will be the team celebrating the win on Sunday night.

Correct Score Prediction – Kansas City Chiefs – 38-31 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
