In a thrilling match at Anfield, Liverpool emerged victorious over Chelsea with a 2-1 scoreline. The win allowed Liverpool to leapfrog Manchester City and reclaim the top spot in the English Premier League. The game was intense, with both teams showing strong performances, Chelsea starting the game well before Liverpool began to take control and create more chances against the Chelsea back line.
The match was marked by several key moments that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Curtis Jones played a pivotal role for Liverpool, scoring the winning goal and being involved in crucial penalty situations.
His performance was praised, especially as he recently became a father and the Scouser dedicated his goal to his new daughter. Mohamed Salah also contributed by converting a first-half penalty, after Levi Colwill's foul on Curtis Jones. Despite Chelsea's efforts, including a second-half goal by Nicolas Jackson, they couldn't overcome Liverpool's strong defense.
On Sunday, Manchester City also secured a victory against Wolves, thanks to a controversial late goal by John Stones. This win was essential for City to keep pace with Liverpool at the top of the table. However, City's performance showed vulnerabilities, none more so when Wolves took the lead after just seven minutes through Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Josko Gvardiol scored a stunning goal on 33 minutes to level, but City struggled to create chances against Wolves but in the 95th minute, John Stones' header seemed to hand City the win, only for the referee to disallow the goal as Bernardo Silva was offside.
However, VAR intervened and after consulting the screen, the referee ruled that Silva was not interfering with play, despite being stood next to the Wolves keeper, and the goal was allowed to stand. It was a hugely controversial moment and one that will need to be explained by officials.
Erling Haaland, City's star striker, has been scoreless in three consecutive league games, putting pressure on City's other players to find the goals for the team.
In another significant match, Arsenal faced a setback against Bournemouth, losing 2-0. This loss prevented Arsenal from climbing to the top of the table and allowed Liverpool and Manchester City to create a gap in the standings with their respective wins on Sunday.
Arsenal's task in this game was hindered by the absence of key players like Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard due to injuries. The match saw William Saliba being sent off for denying Bournemouth striker Evanilson a goalscoring opportunity after 30 minutes. Unlike in other games where the Gunners were reduced to ten men, they could not pick up a point from this encounter.
The straight red was a real blow for Arsenal and means Saliba will be suspended for next week's must win home game against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
Late goals from substitutes Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert (from the penalty spot) handed Andoni Iraola's team a crucial win and dealt Arsenal a blow in their title challenge.
Mohammed Kudus went from hero to villain for West Ham as Julen Lopetegui's team went down to a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Spurs. The Ghanaian star put West Ham in front on 18 minutes to stun the home crowd into silence.
Ange Postecoglou watched his side struggle in the first half, but Dejan Kulusevski was a constant threat and the Swedish star levelled with a fabulous finish, his low shot going into the net off both posts.
A couple of tactical changes at half time, including Pape Sarr coming on for James Maddison, had a big impact and Spurs rattled the Hammers with three goals in eight minutes. Yves Bissouma fired home the first before a comical own-goal from Hammers keeper Alphonse Areola made it 3-1. Then five minutes later Son Heung-min fired home a fourth.
Kudus was sent off late on for striking two Spurs players in the face in a late scuffle between the two teams. West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is planning to address this unacceptable behavior from the talented attacker following his red card.
After a poor first-half display, which saw Brentford take a half-time lead thanks to Ethan Pinnock's fine header in first half injury time, Manchester United bounced back to claim the win with a fine second half performance.
United boss Erik Ten Hag must have read the riot act to his team as they came out in the second period fired up and levelled almost immediately through a very neat finish from Alejandro Garnacho.
The Red Devils were now very much on top and it was no surprise when Rasmus Hojlund scored their second on 62 minutes and despite having 23 shots, 11 of which were on target, United could not add a third to emphasise their dominance.
Fulham started the game with Villa brightly and took the lead on five minutes when Raul Jimenez scored. However, the lead only lasted four minutes before Morgan Rogers pulled Villa level with a great finish on nine minutes.
Ollie Watkins then put Villa ahead in the 59th minute before Fulham's task was made all the more difficult when Joachim Anderson was sent off on 64 minutes. Five minutes later, Villa made it 3-1 when Issa Diop put through his own net.
It wasn't all good news for Villa as young winger Jaden Philogene was somewhat harshly dismissed in the third minute of injury time for what looked like an innocuous tackle for a second yellow card.
Danny Welbeck scored a key first half goal to put Brighton 1-0 up and then the Seagulls put up a fine defensive display to keep Newcastle out and secure a fantastic 1-0 away win.
However, Welbeck was withdrawn in the second half with what looked like a worrying back injury following a challenge with Fabian Schar.
Sean Dyche extended Everton's winning run to four games as the Toffees boss celebrated a rare away win for his team at Portman Road. The goals came in an action-packed first half with Iliman Ndiaye scoring first on 17 minutes, before Michael Keane's superb finish added a second after 40 minutes.
Ipswich has more possession and shots on goal than Everton but found creating clear cut chances against the resurgent Toffeemen difficult. The win moved Everton four points clear of Ipswich, with the Tractor Boys in 17th place in the table.
Pressure is mounting on Southampton boss Russell Martin as the Saints have just one point from eight games this season. They gave away a 2-0 lead at half time to Leicester to end up on the losing side once again.
Things began well with Cam Archer putting Southampton 1-0 in front on 8 minutes and then Joe Aribo made it 2-0 in 28 minutes. All looked good for Southampton heading in at half time.
Leicester pulled a goal back with a Facundo Buonanotte goal on 64 minutes. However Ryan Fraser was red-carded for denying a goalscoring opportunity in the box and Jamie Vardy converted the penalty to make it 2-2.
It seemed the Saints would get a draw, but eight minutes into injury time, Jordan Ayew struck home a winner for Leicester as the Foxes secured another three points.

In the final fixture of the game week, Nottingham Forest is set to face Crystal Palace. Both teams are eager for three points, with Crystal Palace looking to climb the table from their lowly 18th position.
Similarly, a win for Nottingham Forest could move them up into the battle for the top six, level on points with Spurs and ahead of Newcastle United.
Forest have James Ward-Prowse suspended for this game, while Ibrahim Sangare and Danilo are both out injured, and talismanic midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is a major doubt for the game.
Palace have five players out injured for this game including Chiadi Riad, Matt Turner, Matheus Franca, Rob Holding and Christopher Richards. Cheick Doucoure could be fit from an ankle injury.
