After the latest Premier League action this weekend, here's the latest league table.

Premier League action - table

Chelsea have moved within two points of Liverpool following their win over Brentford, but Arsenal failed to capitalise on the leaders' second successive draw in the league. Manchester City's defeat drops them down to fifth in the table, with Nottingham Forest going fourth thanks to their dramatic 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

Despite their win over Man City, Man Utd remain 13th in the table. However just six points separated Man Utd in 13th from Nottm Forest in fourth.

Ipswich's win over Wolves moved them three clear of Wolves and they are now three points from safety, with Leicester 17th after their heavy loss at Newcastle United.

Premier League Action – Key Stories from the Weekend

Chelsea's Impressive Form Continues

Chelsea has been on a remarkable run in the English Premier League, scoring in their last 15 games. They recently secured their seventh consecutive win across all competitions by defeating Brentford 2-1 thanks to goals from Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson.

This victory has propelled them to second place in the league, just two points behind leaders Liverpool. If Chelsea manages to beat Everton next weekend, ahead of Liverpool's game with Spurs, they could potentially take the top spot over the Christmas period.

Enzo Maresca's team is currently four points ahead of third-placed Arsenal and seven points ahead of defending champions Manchester City. Chelsea's recent success is part of a 10-game unbeaten run, showcasing their much-improved performance under their new manager.

Manchester City's Succumb to United's Late Charge

Manchester City, known for overcoming point deficits to win titles, is currently nine points behind Liverpool. They are struggling with poor form under manager Pep Guardiola, having won only one of their last eleven matches.

That miserable form was compounded on Sunday in a 2-1 loss against Manchester United. After a decent first-half display, City went in front through Josko Gvardiol's header. United struggled in the first half but Ruben Amorim made some changes and in the second half things improved.

United looked to have snatched a point when Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty on 88 minutes, however two minutes later the impressive Amad Diallo slotted home a well-taken finish to snatch the win for the Red Devils and leave City fans aghast.

This late salvo of Premier League action saw United claim a massive win over their rivals, closing the gap on the top six as a result. For City, it was a bitter defeat and continues their poor run of form.

Arsenal's Struggles Against Well-Marshalled Everton

Premier League Action

Arsenal is six points behind Liverpool and still considered contenders despite a drop from last seasonโ€™s dominant form.

The Gunner's defensive solidity remains, but offensive production has decreased this season. Arsenal is scoring fewer goals and taking fewer shots compared to last season, and that was clearly evident in their 0-0 draw with Everton at the Emirates this weekend.

Despite dominating the game, Arsenal struggled to create much against a spirited Everton defence and the substitutions of Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice in the second half stumped many Arsenal fans who felt both needed to stay on the field.

The point saw Everton stay 16th in the table and moved them three points clear of the drop zone.

O'Neill Sacked After Wolves Lose To Tractor Boys

Gary O'Neill's tenure as Wolves manager came to an end on Saturday evening after Wolves went down to a 2-1 defeat at home to fellow relegation rivals Ipswich Town. It was the final straw for the Wolves board after a poor start to the season left the Black Country side struggling near the bottom of the table.

Vitor Pereira is believed to be the board's target to replace O'Neill. The current manager of Al Shabab is believed to be keen on the move to the midlands, with Wolves believed to be ready to pay his release clause to secure his signature.

Pereira has won four league titles in his career. Two in Portugal with FC Porto, the Greek Super League with Olympiacos and also the Chinese Super League with Shanghai SIPG.

Robbo Sees Red As 10-Man Reds Battle To Draw With Fulham

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson was dismissed after 17-minutes of the game between Liverpool and Fulham at Anfield, with the Reds already trailing to a goal from Fulham's Andreas Pereira.

Despite playing the vast majority of the game with ten men, the league leaders twice came back to secure a draw and had 62% of the possession. Cody Gakpo equalised in the early stages of the second half and then Diogo Jota cancelled out Rodrigo Muniz goal to make it 2-2.

With Kostas Tsimikas injured, Robertson's red card gives Liverpool a problem at left-back, with the Scotland star set to miss forthcoming games with Southampton and Tottenham.

Chelsea's win saw them move two points behind Liverpool, although Arne Slot's team still have a game in hand over most of their rivals at the top of the table.

Forest Fightback Vanquishes Villa

A late fightback from Nottingham Forest saw them leapfrog Manchester City in the table to move fourth as they came from behind to win 2-1 at the City Ground against Aston Villa.

Jhon Duran had headed Villa in front in the second half with a lovely header to give the visitors the lead. Chris Wood looked to have levelled before the goal was ruled out for offside by VAR in what looked a harsh call.

However, Forest never gave up and centre back Nikola Milenkovic headed them level on 87 minutes and then three minutes into added time, Anthony Elanga swept home Elliot Anderson's low cross to hand Forest a crucial win.

Southampton Sack Martin After Spurs Humiliation

Southampton sacked manager Russell Martin on Sunday night after a heavy 5-0 defeat at home to Tottenham. This loss left them at the bottom of the Premier League, nine points adrift of safety. Simon Rusk, the Under-21s manager, will take over on an interim basis.

All five of Spurs goals came in a frantic first half, with the visitors taking a 3-0 lead after just 15 minutes of the game. Two further goals arrived in the first half leaving many Saints fans furious at the teams performance.

Martin's sacking seemed inevitable, especially after how the game transpired. The Saints now need to regroup for this week's Carabao Cup Quarter-Final home game against Liverpool.

Spurs moved to 10th in the table and they head into their quarter-final tie with Manchester United this week in a much more positive state of mind.

Other Premier League Action

Newcastle routed Leicester City 4-0 at St James' Park with Jacob Murphy scoring twice and Bruno Guimares and Alexander Isak also finding the net. It was a fine performance by the home side who registered 27 shots, 11 on target, against the Foxes.

Brighton suffered a rare home defeat when the Seagulls went down 3-1 to Crystal Palace at the AMEX. Trevor Chalobah gave Palace the lead and a double strike from Ismaila Sarr put the Eagles 3-0 up. Marc Guehi's late own goal was simply a consolation for the home side.

Monday night sees Bournemouth host West Ham in the final game of the weekend. If the Cherries can win by three goals or more, they would go fifth in the table above Villa and Manchester City, while a West Ham win would put them one point behind Man Utd and nine clear of the relegation zone.

Dele Alli's Potential Return – An Italian Job

Dele Alli, a former Tottenham and England star, has not played a competitive game in almost two years. Premier League legend Cesc Fabregas is considering offering Alli a chance to regain his form in top-level football.

Fabregas, currently the head coach at Serie A club Como, hopes that Alli will start training with Como next month to help him get back in shape. Alli has been training with Everton to build fitness but hasn't played a league game since February 2023 for Besiktas.

Midweek Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals

While the Premier League action is coming thick and fast, it is not the only competition that teams at the top are competing for. The Carabao Cup quarter-finals take place this week, with three games on Wednesday and one on Thursday.

Wednesday night sees Arsenal host Crystal Palace in the first of the three matches that night. This is followed by Newcastle taking on Brentford at St James' Park and then the 8pm kick off sees managerless Southampton hosting league leaders Liverpool.

Thursday's game should be a cracker as Tottenham host Manchester United in London in a clash between two teams who both had excellent wins at the weekend.

All four ties will be played to a conclusion on the night.

After another exciting week of Premier League action, the fun is only just starting as we head into the busy festive season!
