NBA 2023/24 Season Preview – NBA Draft Major Moves
Superstar-in-Waiting Victor Wembanyama drafted First by San Antonio Spurs
Perhaps the biggest and most hyped star since LeBron James on 2003 – Frenchman Victor Wembanyama was unsurprisingly taken first by the Spurs who will hope they have a generational talent on their hands.
At 7ft 5” he is so much more than just a big man and Spurs fans will be excited to see what he can do in his first season.
Other smart draft moves included Scoot Henderson being taken by the Portland Trail Blazer, Brandon Miller heading to Charlotte to play for the Hornets.
Twins Amen and Ausar Thompson became the first twins to be picked in the top five of an NBA Draft when selected by the Rockets (Amen) and Pistons (Ausar) at fourth and fifth respectively.

No NBA 2023/24 Season Preview would be complete without a look at the latest betting tips. So let’s now take a look at the forthcoming NBA Season with a look at which teams we think will be in contention to win each of the two Conference Championships.
Who Wins the Eastern Conference?
Latest Odds from bet365 Sport
Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks – 6/4 joint favourites
Miami Heat – 9/1
Philadelphia 76ers – 10/1
Cleveland Cavaliers – 11/1
New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors – 20/1
Atlanta Hawks – 25/1
Brooklyn Nets – 40/1
Chicago Bulls – 60/1
Indiana Pacers – 100/1
Charlotte Hornets, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards – 150/1
The smart money here seems to be on the Celtic and the Bucks who are the two shortest price teams to win any of the two conferences.
It’s a fair assessment as the 76ers have probably got worse than last season and other teams such as the Cavs, Hawks, Raptors and Knicks are not at the level of the top two.
It’s a shock seeing the Nets so long at 40/1, but after their super-team experiment failed, they have moved on their top stars and are rebuilding.
It will be close between the Bucks and Celtics, but I am backing the Celtics to do enough to claim the Eastern Conference title.
Eastern Conference Predicted Finishing Positions:
Boston Celtics
Milwaukee Bucks
Miami Heat
Cleveland Cavaliers
Philadelphia 76ers
Atlanta Hawks
New York Knicks
Indiana Pacers
Charlotte Hornets
Toronto Raptors
Chicago Bulls
Brooklyn Nets
Detroit Pistons
Washington Wizards
Orlando Magic
Who do you think will finish where in the Eastern Conference?
Who Wins the Western Conference?
Latest Odds from bet365 Sport
Denver Nuggets – 12/5 fav
Phoenix Suns – 13/4
Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers – 13/2
Los Angeles Clippers – 9/1
Dallas Mavericks – 10/1
Memphis Grizzlies – 14/1
New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings – 25/1
Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder – 33/1
San Antonio Spurs – 80/1
Houston Rockets – 100/1
Portland Trail Blazers, Utah Jazz – 125/1
This is a far more open conference with a number of teams having a realistic chance of landing the top spot in the playoffs. Unsurprisingly, the NBA Champions, Denver Nuggets are the favourites here at 12/5.
However, my money would be on the Phoenix Suns who have added Bradley Beal to Devin Booker and Kevin Durant and who I think look set to be the team to beat in the West this season.
With the Utah Jazz now in a rebuilding mode, and the Trail Blazers also looking to rebuild after losing Damian Lillard, the only realistic challengers to these top two teams are the Lakers and Warriors.
However, I’d still take the Suns at 13/4 to win the West.
Western Conference Predicted Finishing Positions:
Phoenix Suns
Los Angeles Lakers
Denver Nuggets
Dallas Mavericks
Golden State Warriors
Memphis Grizzlies
Los Angeles Clippers
New Orleans Pelicans
San Antonio Spurs
Sacramento Kings
Minnesota Timberwolves
Oklahoma City Thunder
Utah Jazz
Portland Trail Blazers
Houston Rockets
What are your thoughts on who will win the Western Conference?
Who Wins the NBA Finals?
Working out how the playoffs could pan out, I think the Phoenix Suns are the team to back here at 6/1.
The action gets underway with the first game of the season on the 25th October as the Champions Denver Nuggets take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the opening match of the season!
