We still had a few upset results this week in the NFL. Including one that came right out of left field, but in the main, the results pretty much went as expected. Or certainly as I predicted last week for the eighth game week of the season.
In a week which saw all 32 teams in action, we saw several teams enhance their prospects of winning the division, or at least claiming a place in the playoffs.
But for the majority of NFL teams who sit between the 3 and 5 win mark, it is much of a muchness. All of these teams will be hoping that post trade deadline week, they will be able to string together a run of wins to move into contention.
It was a bad week for injuries with a number of first choice quarterbacks going down with injury including Kirk Cousins (Vikings) who will be out for a year with an Achilles injury, plus other QBs like Tyrod Taylor (Giants), De Ridder (Falcons), Pickett (Steelers) and Stafford (Rams) all were hurt this week.
Game Week 9 therefore promises to be an intriguing one and you can enjoy a bet on those games now with the odds provided by bet365 Sport shown in this article which were correct at the time of writing, but may have changed since publication.

Let’s start as always with a recap of Week 8 action.
That was a much better week of tips as I landed 75% of the predictions correctly, a vast improvement on last weeks 5/13 effort. That’s all the more impressive considering two losers were the Chiefs and 49ers, many people’s favourites to win the Super Bowl this season.
There are some teams on a bye week this week, so there’s a couple of games fewer, but I’d like the same hit rate with my tips below.
From the ridiculous to the sublime. After the opening three weeks of the season, the Bengals looked hopeless. Now with a fit Joe Burrow, they have won the last four and cruised to a road victory over one of the Super Bowl favourites, the 49ers. This was a statement win. The 0-3 Bengals have gone and in their place is a new and formidable 4-0 Bengals.
Sure, the Chiefs had their issues with QB Patrick Mahomes illness, but make no mistake, Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos deserved this win. Russell Wilson managed the game well, hitting 12 of 19 passes, but three of those went for touchdowns. The Broncos defense forced two fumbles, recovering one and intercepted Mahomes twice, as well as sacking him four times too. This was much better from the Broncos, but now they need to sustain this.
For the first two quarters, we witnessed Lamb decimate the sheepish Rams as the Cowboys decimated their opponents on offense and defense. Lamb had a career day, Dak Prescott was on top form and the Cowboys defense, led by Micah Parsons ate up the Rams at every opportunity. Sure the Rams fought back a little in the second half, but Dallas kept them at arm’s length all the way. That first half was the best 30 minutes from a team I’ve seen this season.
Three field goals against a team that the Chiefs had won 12-straight against. Patrick Mahomes bout of flu in the days preceding the Broncos game hit hard and there’s no doubt that Mahomes, in my view, should not have played. He was a shadow of himself in the game and the Chiefs paid the penalty.
At 5-0, the San Francisco 49ers looked like a team that were ready to go on and make a strong run for the Super Bowl. Three weeks later, heading into their bye week, they are now 5-3 with two home defeats on the record as they were outplayed by Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. Alarm bells may not be ringing just yet in the Bay area, but this Bye Week comes at a very convenient time for the struggling 49ers.
The Raiders mustered just 157 yards of offense, despite forcing three turnovers as they struggled against the Lions defense. Jimmy Garoppolo passed for just 126 yards hitting ten of 21 passes, they rushed for 80 yards combined and one of their touchdowns came courtesy of an interception on defense. Jimmy G says he has to play better, Josh Jacobs says it is not his problem to sort out, Hunter Renfrow seemingly wants a trade away. It’s not great on the Raiders offense at the moment.
Who is the best receiver in the NFL right now? Jefferson? Hill? Kupp? Well, AJ Brown’s name is in that company if not more after his sixth straight 100+ yard receiving game. It included two incredible touchdown catches, the first a one handed grab by the sideline under pressure that has to be seen to be believed. Brown wanted more of the ball throwing his way a few weeks back. The Eagles are reaping the benefit of that right now.
Will Levis fall in the 2023 NFL Draft into the second round was a huge surprise, but many felt that the QB had some issues. However, with Ryan Tannehill injured and his back up Malik Willis failing to produce the goods, Titans coach Mike Vrabel handed the keys to Levis for the game with the Atlanta Falcons more in hope than expectation. A four touchdown, 238 yards 19/29 passing attempts victory with a 130-5 QB rating on his NFL debut, and Titans fans may feel a lot more secure about their second round pick this year. Next up is a big test against the Steelers on Thursday night.
Another rookie showcasing his talents was the Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs who had his breakout game on Monday night against the Raiders amassing 152 yards and a touchdown from 26 carries in what was a spectacular performance by the youngster. Lions fans had been waiting to see something special from Gibbs. They got that on Monday night.
There are four teams on a Bye Week this week; the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars and San Francisco 49ers.
