After a busy week of action in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League, the Premier League returns this weekend with the final game before the next international break.

And there could not be a bigger weekend for two of the genuine title contenders to finish this set of games on as Liverpool face Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday in a game that could have major repercussions for both team’s title hopes.

However, there are other big games this weekend including Everton’s trip to Manchester United, with both teams just a point behind the Reds in the table. Improving Arsenal travel to Brighton who have started the season superbly well, while Chelsea will look to bounce back from two defeats in a row against Southampton.

Last weekend was a strange one in many ways in the EPL, with the top teams suffering defeat or only able to earn a draw, bar Manchester City, who earned the eye catching win of the week away to Chelsea.

Aston Villa also earned rave reviews after they defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford 1-0 thanks to a late Korney Hause header, a result exacerbated by Bruno Fernandes injury time penalty miss against the Villains.

Other notable results were Arsenal’s thumping win over Arsenal, Brentford’s spirited 3-3 draw against Liverpool in what was an excellent game and Everton’s solid victory over Norwich which moved them back into contention at the top of the table.

Premier League Matchday 6 Results

  • Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City
  • Manchester United 0-1 Aston Villa
  • Leicester City 2-2 Burnley
  • Everton 2-0 Norwich City
  • Leeds Utd 1-2 West Ham
  • Watford 1-1 Newcastle United
  • Brentford 3-3 Liverpool
  • Southampton 0-1 Wolves
  • Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham
  • Crystal Palace 1-1 Brighton

After what was a surprising weekend in many ways last week, with only one of the top five teams managing to land a victory, let’s now take a look ahead to this weekend’s action in the EPL as we preview all ten games across Saturday and Sunday.

Premier League – Matchday 7

Saturday 2nd October

  • Manchester United v Everton (12.30pm)

Saturday lunchtime kicks off with a big game at Old Trafford as Manchester United seek to bounce back from their defeat to Aston Villa last week against an Everton side equal on points with the home side. Rafa Benitez has started off well in his new role as Everton boss, but this is a big test against a United side who will be desperate for a win, especially with two main rivals once again competing against each other this week. I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men should get the job done here, but it will be a close one.

Our Prediction – Manchester United to win – 9/20

  • Burnley v Norwich City

The bottom two teams, both without a win this season, meet at Turf Moor on Saturday and both will be hoping that they can earn that elusive first win of the season. Burnley earned a good draw with Leicester last weekend, but Norwich went down to another defeat at Everton and I think that the Canaries are going to struggle against a Burnley side who are better than their 19th place in the table suggests. Sean Dyche will get this team going and I think that recovery will start here.

Our Prediction – Burnley to win – 17/20

  • Chelsea v Southampton

It’s been a miserable week for Chelsea after losing to Manchester City at home last weekend and then losing by the same 1-0 scoreline to Juventus in the Champions League in midweek. However, a home game against Southampton, who have been draw specialists this season is not going to be much easier. The Saints have been tough to beat, as Man City and Man Utd can testify to, but I think Chelsea will bounce back to claim a victory here.

Our Prediction – Chelsea to win – 4/11

  • Leeds United v Watford

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds have suffered a little with second season syndrome and are yet to win in the Premier League this season, losing three and drawing three games. However, I think the way Leeds play means that they will eventually come good and I can see their improvement starting here. Watford have started the season well but I do feel they are one of the weaker teams in the division and I can’t see them getting any joy from this trip up north.

Our Prediction – Leeds United to win – 8/11

  • Wolverhampton Wanderers v Newcastle United

Wolves landed their first win of the season last weekend thanks to Raul Jiménez’s fine strike away to Southampton. That victory not only alleviated their relegation concerns but will be a huge boost to a team that don’t score many goals. You can say the same about Newcastle and Steve Bruce’s team have been under fire a bit because of that but they are not a bad side and I am backing the visitors to come away from this trip with another point secured.

Our Prediction – Draw – 3/1

  • Brighton v Arsenal (5.30pm)

Brighton have started the season superbly well and are one of a number of teams on 13 points, but after a dismal start, Arsenal have won their last three games and now sit in mid table and after a 3-1 win over Spurs last weekend, they should be confident of getting something here. There was a lot more passion shown by Arsenal in their last game and if they can repeat that here, even against an in form Brighton, then they should pick up the points.

Our Prediction – Arsenal to win – 11/8

Sunday 3rd October

  • Crystal Palace v Leicester City (2pm)

These two teams have had somewhat mixed starts to th season, with some good results mixed in with some poor ones. Defensively Palace have arguably looked the better of the two teams with Leicester shipping an unusual amount of goals. However, Leicester do have that extra quality in attack but they have looked somewhat fragile at times. Given both teams have their issues, I think that the draw is the most likely result here.

Our Prediction – Draw – 12/5

  • Tottenham v Aston Villa (2pm)

Can Tottenham arrest their miserable run of form which has seen them lose all their last three games and drop to 11th in the table behind Arsenal? They face a Villa side likely to be full of confidence after picking up maximum points away to Manchester United last weekend. However, Spurs are too good for this poor run of form to continue and I think they will halt their slide with a victory here, although it may be a very close one

Our Prediction – Tottenham to win – 11/10

  • West Ham v Brentford (2pm)

A rare London derby between these two teams who have performed very well this season. Both teams have won plaudits for their attacking style and results but I think West Ham just have that extra edge in quality. However, Brentford’s tenacity, work ethic and organisation means that this will not be an easy game for the home side. I expect this to be a really good contest, perhaps a fair few goals, but I think the Hammers may do enough to come out on top.

Our Prediction – West Ham to win – 4/5

  • Liverpool v Manchester City (4.30pm)

The big game of the weekend at Anfield sees unbeaten Liverpool defending that record against Manchester City who lie in second place in the league table. A win for either side here would be huge in the context of the Premier League. Man City won 4-1 here last season but this Liverpool team is much stronger, in form and will have the Anfield crowd backing them. That makes a huge difference and as such, I am backing the home team to come away with the victory.

Our Prediction – Liverpool home win – 19/10
