Las Vegas, NV – In response to the much-reported and unprecedented dealer shortage developing at the World Series of Poker, the WSOP has an ingenious idea to close the gap: effective immediately, WSOP is extending an invitation to all poker players to enter the $500 buy-in Casino Employees Event on Thursday for free.
The offer comes with the very minor stipulation: you must deal for the remainder of the WSOP in order to be eligible.
While many anticipate that very few players will accept such a restrictive offer, BonusCodePoker can confirm that some of poker’s finest and not-so-finest have expressed interest.
Allen Kessler, Mike Matusow, Erick Lindgren and the ghost of Sam Grizzle are among those that have already registered for the Casino Employees event and have been spotted at local dealer training seminars.
“After the rough year that everyone had during 2020, I thought it was appropriate not to win an event this year to spare the world from the apocalypse at least for another year,” said Allen Kessler, who has come up empty for a bracelet during his illustrious career.
Should Matusow or Lingren follow through with the endeavor, it would mark the first time since 2009 and 2008, respectively, that each has shown a profit during the WSOP.
“I’ve got to admit, I’m looking forward to an up year,” said Lindgren, who is rumored to be paying 438 people on outstanding sports bets “next week, I promise.”
Alternative ideas rejected by WSOP
Despite the unprecedented move by the WSOP, we can confirm that our jaws dropped when we learned of some of the other options being bandied about in Caesars Entertainment boardrooms to deal with the dealer shortage.
Among the ideas suggested was instituting 24-handed tables (the maximum possible with a single deck when playing Hold’em) and requiring every event to be an “All-in” event (to save on time and not really require skillful dealers).
It was even suggested that players could self deal their own games, which Men Nguyen was especially enthusiastic about.
