Zhi Wu takes down his first WSOP gold bracelet, while Jason Koon is among the final four players remaining in the $25,000 Heads-up Championship. And potential big news brewing with Phil Hellmuth still alive in the $10k Omaha Hi/Lo Championship, albeit with a small chip stack.
Let’s take a look at the happenings around the WSOP on Wednesday and look ahead to the day’s action on Thursday.
After 3 days, but just one hour of heads-up play, Zhi Wu is the sole survivor in Event #8, the $600 No Limit Hold’em Deepstack. The Boston native outlasted a huge field of 4,527 entries to win a $281,604 first-place prize and his first gold bracelet.
Joining Wu at the final table was Ari Mezrich ($173,998), Chrishan Sivasundaram ($131,675), Ryan Chan ($100,330) and Nicholas Zautra ($76,974).
Wu has tournament cashes dating back to 2012, but his victory in the $600 NLHE Deepstack is by far the biggest of his poker career. His previous best came during a second-place finish in the 2019 WPT Seminole Rock and Roll Poker Open where he won $21,015.

Phil Hellmuth has a fighting chance for his 16th WSOP gold bracelet in the $10,000 Omaha Hi/Lo Championship with just five remaining in the event. The bad news — he has a lot of catching up to do as the short stack. Hellmuth currently sits at 390k in chips, which is about 10% the amount of leader Ari Engel, who has 3,485,000.
Engel will go into the final table with a healthy lead that more than doubles Zachary Milchman (1,660,000), Eddie Blumental (1,405,000), Andrew Yeh (1,105,000) followed by Hellmuth. Each of the remaining players is guaranteed $80,894 with $317,076 going to the winner. The action will resume at 4 PM PT and will be streamed on PokerGo beginning at 8 PM ET.
On Wednesday, the $25k Head-Up No Limit Hold’em Championship played the round of 16 and the round of 8; by the end of the day’s action just four players remained. Jason Koon will face off against Puustinen while Dan Zack and Gabor will go head to head during Thursday’s action. The winners of each event will meet for the title, gold bracelet and $243,981 in cash.
Day 2 is in the books for Event #12, the $1,500 Limit Hold’em. Just 16 players remain from a field of 422 entries. It’s Kevin Erickson that holds the chip lead when action resumes at 2 PM PT. Two bracelet winners are among those still alive — Yuval Bronshtein and Jorden Fox. The winning player will receive a gold bracelet and $124,374.
Play will resume at 4 PM PT.
The $3,000 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout will enter a second day on Thursday with 108 out of the 720 entries returning for the day. Andrew Jeong will hold the chip lead when play begins at noon. Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Christian Harder and Darren Elias are among the notables who are also still alive.
Day 1 of the $1,500 Seven Card Stud is in the books with 76 out of the original 261 entries still remaining. Elias Hourani will come into the day with the chip lead but there are some big names and bracelet winners still battling, including Brendan Taylor, Kevin Gehart, Dan Heimiller, Steve Albini and David Williams.
On tap for Thursday are two new events, which will bring the total to 16 that have either been completed or started. The first new event of the day, the $1,500 6-Handed No Limit Hold’em gets underway at 11 AM ET while the $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship begins at 3 PM PT.
With Phil Hellmuth vying for his 16th WSOP bracelet on Thursday, PokerGo will be there to give poker fans bonus coverage. You can tune in beginning at 8 PM ET.

Day 6 and smiling selfies have turned into disgruntled punters annoyed at waiting in line. Multiple tweets of wanting to “get out” “burnout” whilst all events postponed 1hour due to a WSOP “computer outage.” Not many chip pics

Not a day at home, reading WSOP updates, that you don’t want to want to fly out. Not a day at WSOP, dealing with bureaucracy, that you don’t want to fly home.
