Brentford v Liverpool: Narrow Home Favourites After the LASK Goal Rush

Brentford remain narrow Bet365 favourites after Liverpool’s 6–3 win at LASK. Updated prices, Barcola’s hat-trick and the team-news questions behind both betting angles.

Brentford remain the narrow Bet365 favourites against Liverpool, even after the visitors put six past LASK. Bradley Barcola’s hat-trick changes the attacking picture, while Gravenberch’s suspension and Liverpool’s unresolved fitness calls keep Saturday awkward. Six goals make a fine souvenir from Austria; they don’t come with three Premier League points attached.

Compared with the prices in our 13 October preview, Brentford have shortened from 11/8 to 13/10 and Liverpool have drifted from 8/5 to 15/8; the draw remains 11/4. No official explanation for that movement has been verified, so it would be guesswork to pin it on a particular injury or rotation decision.

Brentford can hurt Liverpool without controlling the game

Brentford’s recent league results include draws at Leeds (1–1), at home to Sunderland (1–1) and at Bournemouth (2–2). Their next two games give the home-win argument more substance, and a useful warning.

The 3–0 home win over Chelsea on 18 September gives Brentford a recent example of beating a heavyweight at the Gtech. Jaidon Anthony, Igor Thiago and Fábio Carvalho scored. That result makes the home price understandable; it doesn’t turn every subsequent fixture into a lap of honour.

Their 2–2 draw at Aston Villa on 10 October showed both sides. Schade won possession high up the pitch before Thiago’s cross was cleared to Yehor Yarmoliuk for the opener. Later, Jaidon Anthony’s turn and return pass let Kristoffer Ajer equalise from close range. Brentford could threaten through pressure or a short combination.

Villa also forced Caoimhín Kelleher into a double save before half-time. Brentford remained unbeaten through six league matches, but Liverpool can take encouragement from those defensive scares. At either end, the first challenge may leave another job to finish.

Liverpool’s City defeat needs its red-card context

Liverpool’s official match report records a goalless game until Gravenberch’s second yellow card in the 62nd minute. Erling Haaland scored three minutes later, followed by Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki. A 3–0 defeat at Anfield is a dreadful afternoon by any measure, but those goals all came against ten men. Treating that spell as a forecast for 90 minutes at Brentford would give one red card an awfully busy job.

Liverpool also have recent away wins to set against it: 2–0 at Ipswich on 4 September and 1–0 at Bournemouth on 20 September. Isak scored both goals at Ipswich. Those results show why dismissing the visitors on the strength of Sunday alone would be rash, although Saturday’s available attack could look different.

What the six goals at LASK change

Liverpool’s 6–3 win in Linz on 14 October gives this preview a different starting point. Barcola scored his first Liverpool goals in a hat-trick, with Ronald Araujo, Jeremie Frimpong and Lewis Koumas also scoring. The visitors led 4–0 and later 6–1 before Florian Flecker scored twice for LASK.

The useful attacking detail was the variety of close-range openings: Wirtz combined with Barcola, while Frimpong supplied low deliveries for Barcola and Koumas. Brentford will need to track runners across the box as well as meet the first ball. Liverpool still conceded three, though, so one productive European night cannot settle the defensive questions raised at Anfield.

Liverpool’s team news after LASK

Gravenberch’s one-match league suspension remains in place. He misses Brentford and can return against Brighton on 25 October. Playing in Austria did not remove that Premier League absence, so Liverpool must change their midfield.

In the club’s post-LASK fitness update on 15 October, Iraola left open the possibility of Cody Gakpo, Alexander Isak and Dominik Szoboszlai featuring at Brentford. They had missed both City and LASK; he was waiting on Friday’s training before making a decision. None of the three has a confirmed return in that update.

Iraola also said he would need to change the team again at the weekend, with Villarreal following on Tuesday. That makes the starting XI a real consideration, but it gives no basis for naming the replacements. Liverpool’s 13 October squad update also listed Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni as longer-term absentees.

Brentford have fitness questions of their own

Keith Andrews’ 10 October post-Villa update confirmed Schade’s shoulder injury and an ankle problem for Schuster, who came off at half-time. Aaron Hickey replaced him at centre-back. That report does not confirm either player’s availability against Liverpool.

Schade’s part in winning the ball before the Villa opener makes his fitness relevant to the home-win case. Schuster’s condition affects the defensive pairing too. Assuming the hosts have a clean bill of health would make the argument tidier, but no more convincing.

Bet365 betting angle

Brentford to win at 13/10: the Chelsea victory and the openings they created at Villa support examining the home side, while Gravenberch’s suspension forces a Liverpool midfield change. Brentford’s four draws in their last five league games are the clearest objection: another shared afternoon would leave this selection short. The shorter price also asks more of the home-win case than Tuesday’s 11/8. Schade’s fitness and Liverpool’s returning players remain relevant.

Both teams to score, yes, at 1/2: the openings at Villa and Liverpool’s nine-goal evening in Austria make this a separate angle. Yet Liverpool’s clean-sheet wins at Ipswich and Bournemouth show why goals at both ends are no formality. Barcola’s finishing offers encouragement for the visitors; the unresolved availability of Isak and Gakpo still matters. A lively game alone does not settle this market: each side must score.

Our BTTS guide explains the market. We would keep the home-win assessment conditional on the teams and judge it separately from the shorter goals price. Neither quote establishes value by itself.
