Casino culture books are reads that delve into the inner workings of the world of casino.
If you're interested in gambling, they are well worth a read. We've got a selection of great reads that give you a glimpse into lots of the different aspects of casino culture. From architecture to psychology, we've tried to present books that cover a variety of angles.
These books would make a great gift for a casino fan. Or, if you already have a couple books about poker and some sports reads, they can simply add to your own library.
Some people love gambling. Some people can just take it or leave it. But why is that? Squares & Sharps, Suckers & Sharks tries to tackle that question head-on. Author Joseph Buchdahl looks at gambling from lots of different angles to try to figure this out.
This is a book that covers a wide range of disciplines to try to find the answer, from psychology to philosophy. It's a really interesting take on the topic. If you're going to buy one of our casino culture books (or indeed look for it in the library), we'd highly recommend this one.
Fortune's Formula is a surprisingly fun read, considering it's all about science and statistics. In this book, two scientists (Claude Shannon and John L Kelly Jr) explore various methods that are supposed to make you money fast.
This includes trying to employ strategic bets in roulette, as well as non-casino methods like financial trading tricks and Warren Buffet's approach to wealth creation.
It really is a great read, well worth your time. Especially if you're the kind of person who can occasionally get swept up in the get rich quick dream! And you're going to have to read until the end to find out if Shannon and Kelly ended up cracking it!
There are lots of places you can go to find casinos (we've even got some great poker vacation ideas here). But it goes without saying that Las Vegas is the OG gambling destination.
Well, I guess if you're getting technical, there'd be European cities that were known for gambling before Las Vegas. But Vegas is what everyone thinks of when they think of a casino city.
It's had an absolutely huge impact, not just on the world of gambling, but on the world in general. Learning for Las Vegas aims to explore just this. Robert Venturi, Denise Scott Brown and Steven Izenour delve into the history of the city and figure out how it evolved to influence the world of architecture, pop culture and more.
It was originally published in 1972, but it's just as relevant, if not more relevant now, some 50 years later!
