Who says you have to choose between a great vacation and playing poker? With these poker vacations, you certainly don't have to.
Nowhere does luxury gambling better than Monte Carlo. Steeped in centuries of history, this European haven for all things luxe has long been one of the world's key poker vacation destinations.
Visit Monaco for your getaway if you're not afraid of a tux, fancy living the high life in beautiful surroundings like the Casino de Monte Carlo and can't wait to rub shoulders with old money high rollers.
Sometimes we want a whole lot of poker with a little vacation. But for us, it's often the other way around. Johannesburg, and South Africa in general, are breathtaking and worth to visit for so many different reasons.
This is the kind of vacation you'll never forget. You can visit for the culture and incredible dishes, the cool cosmopolitan vibes or, of course, head to see incredible wildlife in a safari. But while you're there, you can also play poker!
Africa isn't known as a big gambling continent, but South Africa is an exception with quite a few options in the capital. Our pick of the bunch? Gold Reef City, which houses a casino as well as a theme park!
Start talking about poker vacations to anyone and there's one destination that will immediately spring to mind. And that's Las Vegas, baby.
This iconic city is packed full of unbelievable card rooms. From Caesars Palace to the Bellagio, these are places you've likely read about and seen in the movies too. Whether you head for the WSOP or are just swanning over to have a good time, Vegas always delivers.
We're always looking out for a place that's a little off the beaten track. And the Philippines ticks those boxes for us. Sure, backpackers have been going there for years. But in North America and Europe, few card players know just what an excellent destination Manilla makes.
In fact, there are several districts throughout the city that have fantastic options for poker players. For example, head to Resorts World and you can pull up a seat at a cash game any time of the day or night. Literally.
When you're packing for any sort of vacation, it pays to have a strategy in advance. It's a lot like poker, really.
First of all, keep in mind the climate of the place you're going. And also think about where you're going to play. If your destination card rooms are casual, some t-shirts and hoodies will do. Is it super luxe? Make sure you've got dress shoes and a shirt or you might not even be let into the door, let alone shown to the table!
It's also a great idea to bring your favorite poker strategy books and brush up on the go with poker strategy podcasts too. And if you're bored on the plane, why not bring a deck of cool cards to mess with or some chips so you can learn new tricks.
Not poker specific, but we always think you should bring a good reusable water bottle and an SPF wherever you travel!
If time or money is short and you can't travel to get your poker fix, you can have some fun closer to home for sure. Treat your friends to a little poker movie night or even host a game in your home. Or if you want to indulge in some you time, why not play a few hands online? Or make an event of it and choose a really good tournament to play over the next week or so. Then block out some time and settle down to a great session.
