Here at Bonus Code Poker, we are equal opportunities poker fans. Sure we all have our favorites, but we’re willing to give anything a go. Whether that’s a super old school tournament, a fast-paced multi-table cash game session or dabbling in different varieties. There’s space in the poker universe for it all. One of the game types we’ve been playing a lot recently is Six Plus Hold’em. And if you haven’t played it a lot yet, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s discuss just why Six Plus is worth your time.

From Macau with love

Macau is a positive mecca for people who love gambling of any type. And we’re happy to say the casino-heavy city has so much to offer poker players too. One of its major contributions to the poker landscape has got to be Six Plus Hold’em. Yes, this game type was developed and first played on a wide scale in the poker rooms of Macau. It’s not like it’s some ancient art either, it was only created in 2014.

However, the genius of this innovation caught the imagination of the poker community and since then it has spread like wildfire.

Get used to a smaller deck

The key feature of Six Plus Hold’em is that the deck is a lot more slimmed down than we’re used to. That’s because we’re only playing with cards ranked six and above here. Or “Six Plus”, get it? So all the twos, threes, fours and fives are removed. And this key feature also leads to its other name, Short Deck.

Other than that, the game pretty much proceeds as a usual game of Texas Hold’em. But of course with certain cards removed, certain things are a little different…

Hold rank with Six Plus

Because your probabilities are mixed up due to the removal of the lower cards, the rankings are switched up too. So keep in mind that a flush beats a full house and a three-of-a-kind beats a straight during Six Plus games.

Switch up your playing style

This high volatility poker game takes a little getting used to. After you start playing, you’ll organically notice that big hands come up much more regularly than in normal poker. Don’t be surprised if you get dealt an ace twice as often as in regular hold’em, for example. Another interesting aside on Six Plus is that suited hands are comparatively stronger here than in the normal game. So keep all those facts in mind while you play your game and adjust how to handle each hand accordingly.

The online home of Six Plus

Six Plus, or Short Deck, is available at lots of different online poker rooms, at least in the decent ones. So wherever you play, chances are you can find Six Plus tables. However, we always think of bet365 as the spiritual online home of Six Plus. That’s because they were relatively early adopters, carrying the game just two years after it was invented in Macau, plus the action at their tables is always so hot. With a variety of stake levels available, why not pull up a virtual seat and give the game a go for yourself.
