Welcome to Wrexham – A Sports Enthusiasts Guide to Wrexham & The Surrounding Area

Welcome to Wrexham

The success of the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynold’s led Welcome to Wrexham TV docuseries has brought the fortunes of the football club to world attention.

The once-struggling club has found itself given a new lease of life thanks to their Hollywood owners. And in doing so, their story has been followed by a documentary crew and viewed by millions across the world.

Welcome to Wrexham is a phenomenon. But not just because of the football or the famous owners. It is also an important piece of social history. It documents the people that make the club what it is and how important it is to the local community.

And perhaps most surprisingly to many, how important the local community is to the club and its owners.

After earning promotion from the Nationwide League at the second attempt, Wrexham have enjoyed another good season in League Two.

They were amongst the pre-season favourites to gain promotion with bet365 Sport and have lived up to that expectation thus far.

An Influx Of New Fans and Spectators after Welcome to Wrexham

A happy by-product of the Welcome to Wrexham docuseries is the fact that the club now boasts supporters all over the globe.

And many of them have made the trip to North Wales to visit the Racecourse Ground to see the Red Dragons in action.

However, did you know that this part of the Northwest of the UK is a rich breeding ground for sport?

There are many outstanding sporting events that take place in this part of the world and in this article we’ll take a look at them.

So that if you are planning to visit Rob and Ryan’s favourite football team, you may want to take in some of these excellent sporting cathedrals and events on your trip!

Football Fans – More to Life Than Wrexham!

Ok, so you have come to see the mighty Red Dragons play at the Racecourse Ground, but did you know that you are not too far from a lot of other clubs, many of whom have a rich history in the English and World game?

Not too far from Wrexham are the Premier League big guns of Liverpool and Everton, in the City of Liverpool, while if you head to Manchester, you could be fortunate to see Manchester United and/or Manchester City in action.

One massive event that you will need to book tickets for is the Grand National at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, which is held every April and which is one of the biggest sporting dates in the calendar.

And for a little excitement off the beaten track, you can often find Harness Racing throughout the summer at nearby Tir Prince Racecourse in Abergele.
