This weekend sees the return of Premier League action with matchday 8 of the season set to take place. All 20 teams are in action from Saturday through to Monday, starting with the game at Vicarage Road where Watford will take on second-placed Liverpool.

However, there are going to be plenty of interested fans following what happens on Sunday at St James’ Park in Newcastle where Tottenham Hotspurs are the visitors for the first game for Newcastle’s new owners, the Saudi Investment Fund.

With a combined wealth believed to be in excess of $430 billion dollars, their ownership makes them by a huge distance, the wealthiest owner of a sports club in history. In contrast, Manchester City’s owners are worth around $20 billion.

With an expectation for the new owners to splash the cash and bring good times back to Newcastle United, it is a hugely exciting time for Geordie fans and there is no doubt the new owners will get a fierce welcome from the Toon faithful on Sunday.

First though, they need to secure a Premier League place as they languish in 19th place in the table and are in serious danger of being sucked into a relegation battle.

Let’s now take a look ahead to the games this weekend. Kick off time is Saturday at 3pm unless otherwise stated in brackets.

Premier League Fixtures & Tips – Matchday 8

  • Watford v Liverpool (12.30pm)

When Liverpool won the Premier League, their first defeat of the season was a 3-0 hammering at Watford. The Reds will not have forgotten that night when Ismael Sarr put them to the sword and will want revenge here. Watford have already sacked their manager this season but I don’t think that matters here as Liverpool look much more like the title winning team of a couple of years ago and I expect them to get their revenge for that loss here.

Correct Score Prediction – Watford 1-3 Liverpool – 11/1

  • Aston Villa v Wolves

This midlands derby game has not seen too many goals scored in it of late, with the last three games between the two teams producing just two goals ( a 1-0 win for each team, plus a 0-0 draw). However, I can see the opportunity for more goals on Saturday as Aston Villa do look a team that can score goals against most teams. They have beaten Everton and Man Utd this season and even though Wolves don’t concede many, I think that the Villains will have the edge here.

Correct Score Prediction – Aston Villa 2-1 Wolves – 9/1

  • Leicester City v Manchester Utd

Leicester have won both their last two games against Manchester United, ending a barren run of 13 games without a win before that. United have not won either of their last two games in the Premier League and this is a tough test for them against a side who have some quality players. However, Leicester’s form this season has been poor by their standards and they have let in too many goals, something I feel United will exploit here to claim a big and important victory.

Correct Score Prediction – Leicester City 1-2 Manchester United – 17/2

  • Manchester City v Burnley

Manchester City have had a very tough run of away games, but they should get back to winning ways here against Burnley at the Etihad. Sean Dyce’s men lie in 18th position and are without a win in the league this season and I can’t see them changing that here. Manchester City have been scoring plenty of goals at home this season and I think Burnley could be on the end of a fair few in this game too.

Correct Score Prediction – Manchester City 4-0 Burnley – 17/2

  • Norwich City v Brighton

After picking up their first point of the season last time out, Norwich now have a chance  to earn their first win of the season against Brighton. However, it is a big ask against a Seagulls team that have been in superb form this season and who lie sixth in the table. Norwich’s lack of goals, just two this season, does mean they struggle to get anything if a team scores a goal against them and I think that may well be the case here.

Correct Score Prediction – Norwich City 0-1 Brighton – 13/2

  • Southampton v Leeds

Two teams that have probably had poorer starts to the season than they would have wanted. Leeds did pick a win last time out, which moved them out of the relegation zone and above Southampton, who have drawn four of their seven games and are yet to land a win. I am not sure that they will do so here as I think this game will see both sides find the net but in the end both teams may have to settle for a point.

Correct Score Prediction – Southampton 2-2 Leeds United – 12/1

  • Brentford v Chelsea (5.30pm)

Saturday night’s London derby promises to be an intriguing game. Brentford have started the season superbly well to lie 7th in the table, while Chelsea are top of the table by a point from Liverpool. Brentford’s ambitious attacking play can cause any team problems, but I feel this Chelsea team is set up to hurt the Bees on the counter attack when they do push forward and as a result, I think that it will be Chelsea that earn the victory here

Correct Score Prediction – Brentford 1-3 Chelsea – 14/1

  • Everton v West Ham (2pm Sun)

Sunday’s first game sees the blue half of Merseyside, Everton facing West Ham in a fixture which has seen the away team have the better of things in recent years. Everton though look a different beast under Rafa Benitez with new signings Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray having a big impact at the club already. The Hammers though are tough to beat, especially on the road, and I think they will do enough to claim a point from today’s game.

Correct Score Prediction – Everton 1-1 West Ham United – 6/1

  • Newcastle Utd v Tottenham (4.30pm Sun)

As the newly minted Newcastle play their first game under their new owners, the focus for the time being has to be on preserving their Premier League status. That begins here with a tough game against a Spurs side not in the best of form, and for whom Harry Kane is yet to score a Premier League goal. The England captain may get off the mark here, but I do think the home side will earn a point from this one.

Correct Score Prediction – Newcastle United 1-1 Tottenham – 13/2

  • Arsenal v Crystal Palace (8pm Mon)

Monday night’s London derby will see Patrick Vieira returning to the club where he made a name for himself as a player. Palace have lost just one of their last five games, while Arsenal have bounced back well after a poor start to the season winning three and drawing one of their last four. The Gunners have home advantage here and that should be enough for them to take the win, however London derby games are tough and I don’t think it will necessarily be an easy win.

Correct Score Prediction – Arsenal 2-0 Crystal Palace – 7/1
