Back in January 2021, Joe Biden had just won the election and was set to be sworn in as the new US President. We took time at this point to look at some potential candidates for the 2024 US President elections.
Now, with those elections here, it is a good time to go back and take a look at this post, in the context of the narrow race to the White House that is set to be decided in the next 24-48 hours.
So let's take a look back at this post, before we conclude with a look at the current situation in the race for the White House as America goes to the polls to decide the next US President!

They say a week is a long time in politics and perhaps that old adage has rung especially true for those living in the United States this week. With Joe Biden set to be sworn in as the new US President on the 20th January, some people are already considering who could eventually replace Biden as president four years down the line.
However, it is not just the political editors and reporters that are speculating on what could happen then. Some sports betting sites are already offering odds on who will be the person elected as US President in four years’ time and it is fair to say that there are some very unusual bets on offer, in amongst those that you would expect.

So just who are some of the more left of field candidates you can bet on becoming President of the United States in 2024? We take a look at some of the usual and not so usual suspects below!
There’s no doubt that one of the best things about betting at bet365 Sport is that the site offers such an extensive range of sports betting options. Often that means you can overlook the non=sports betting options such as Politics.
With the US President still very much a hot topic, who are some of the names bet365 Sport reckons could be in the running to replace Joe Biden in four year’s time?
Now of course, in amongst some of the more left field suggestions, are the people you would expect to see on this list. Joe Biden’s vice-president Kamala Harris is the 7/2 favourite at the moment, with Biden himself a 4/1 shot for a second term. Donald Trump has drifted to 6/1 after the past week, while his vice-president Mike Pence is a 14/1 shot alongside Nikki Haley.
Others of note here are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ivanka Trump who are both 25/1 shots. Donald Trump Jr is a 50/1 shot, while the likes of Michelle Obama (33/1), Ted Cruz (33/1), Pete Buttigieg (40/1), Elizabeth Warren (40/1) , Mike Pompeo (40/1) and Ron DeSantis (40/1) are all worth noting.
But to be honest, those bets are pretty safe and in truth, we much prefer some of the left of field options you can back here, including some that are staggeringly short odds to be the next US President.
Let’s start with those that are the longest odds and move towards those that are a very short-price considering the office in question.
If you think having an extremely wealthy businessman has gone swimmingly well for the United States, so much so that they’d like to have the same again, then Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon could be worth a punt at 250/1. Admittedly, a costly divorce from his wife has seen his personal fortune take a dent, but could he be tempted to take the Trump route into politics?
Not content with developing the next generation of electric cars and striving to put man on Mars, could Billionaire tech-whizz Elon Musk be elected President of the United States in 2024? Musk, now rated by some to be even richer than Jeff Bezos, could have other plans though with hope of a manned mission to Mars by 2024. He may find conquering the Red Planet more of an appeal than running the U.S.
The United States has had an actor as president before, Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, so George Clooney is not as big a stretch as many would think. Clooney is a vocal political and human rights activist with his wife Amal and although he has shown no signs of wanting to enter the political field, a lot can change in four years.
Perhaps few American stars have such a loyal and diverse following as Oprah Winfrey. The Colour Purple Oscar nominee, has made herself a fortune as a TV presenter and her widespread popularity has led to many claiming that she could make a successful move into politics. Even if she herself has not expressed a desire to do so as yet.
With his divorce from Kim Kardashian set to be finalised, musician Kanye West could follow his idol Donald Trump into politics. He even ran for president in 2020, before getting behind Donald Trump. Outspoke, controversial and a divisive figure, West has already indicated that he wants to run for president in 2024. Who that is for, and whether that is as an independent, remains to be seen.
One of the most popular conservative news presenters and a stalwart of Fox News, Tucker Carlson has become one of the most vocal supporters of Trump in recent times and his popularity amongst Republican voters would be seen as a unifying factor. The Lincoln Project said that they feel Tucker Carlson is a genuine front-runner for the Republican Nomination for President in 2024. That explains why his odds are now 33/1.
Dwayne Johnson’s impassioned video after George Floyd’s death sparked the Black Lives Matter protest has certainly struck a chord with Americans. So much so that he has been backed so often by punters for the 2024 Presidency that he is now just 28/1. Johnson has repeatedly ruled out entering politics up until now, but who knows what will happen in four years.
So four years on from this article what happened?
Despite being in the political wilderness with many Republicans, Donald Trump earned the nomination to run for the party and as such, his odds to become US President have been slashed since the original article was published.
So much so that Trump is now the 4/7 favourite with bet365 Sport to become the next US President.
Originally, his opponent was set to be Joe Biden once again, but after a disastrous leader debate, Biden stepped down and Kamala Harris earned the nomination to be the democrat US President nominee.
After an initial bump in the polls, Harris has seen her original lead over Trump dwindle away. To the point where many experts are predicting a narrow Trump victory.
Trump is 4/7 to be US President in 2024, with Harris now the 6/4 outside bet. Those odds are available on election day at bet365 Sport.
Strangely, Trump has been helped by a couple of the more unusual US President candidates listed back in 2021. Elon Musk has been an outspoken supporter for Trump over the last twelve months or so, even to the point of offering a daily $1m prize to Republican supporters who register to vote in Pennsylvania.
Tucker Carlson, as well as Musk, was another 2021 US President candidate listed who has spoken in favour of Trump, most notably at the controversial rally in New York last week. Others speaking included the wrestler Hulk Hogan.
What it means is that as America heads to the polls, this looks like being as tight a race to become US President to the required 270 electoral college votes as it was back in 2020.
