How old is the Women’s Super League?
Established in 2010, the Women’s Super League held its first matches in 2011. But obviously this wasn’t the start of top level English female football. The Super League replaced the Women’s Premier League.
When is the Women’s Super League season?
The Women’s Super League takes place from September through May, just like its male counterparts. However, this has only been the case since 2017.
Before that point, it played during much of the traditional off period for soccer, playing matches from March through October.
What teams took part in the first Women’s Super League?
A total of eight teams played in the first Women’s Super League season. They were Arsenal, Birmingham City, Doncaster Rovers Belles, Chelsea, Bristol Academy, Liverpool, Lincoln Ladies and Everton.
What teams are taking part in the 2022/23 season?
More recently, a dozen teams take part in each season. Currently, that’s Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Reading, Leicester City and Brighton and Hove Albion.
Who are the most successful team in the Women’s Super League?
By far and away the most successful team in the Women’s Super League is Chelsea. Since the first season in 2011, Chelsea have secured six title wins. On top of that, they’ve been winners twice. And their players have held the title of top goal scorers for four of these seasons, including Eniola Aluko, Fran Kirby and Sam Kerr (twice!).
Can I watch Women’s Super League matches live?
You absolutely can. If you’re based in the United States, you can check out the action on NBC Sports and ATA Football. Meanwhile, Canadian fans can tune into the Women’s Super League on Sportsnet.
